RE: How Do You Use Drop Shots???
i really only use a drop shot when I see fish arc's suspending on some peice of structure. I guestimate how high off the bottom they are, tie up the rig to match that height, and then either fish it vertically just big jigging up the bait, without lifting up the sinker, or fishing it like a carolina rig.

RE: How Do You Use Drop Shots???
I only use them when striper fishing as it allows the bait to stay just of bottom while I am waiting for a bite...

Drop Shot Rig There are few things hotter in the Bass market right now than Drop Shot fishing. This technique has migrated from the west all over the country and for one good reason... it works. Gamakatsu’s Split/Drop shot hook has been a part of that growth and now Gamakatsu is introducing pre-tied Drop Shot leaders. These rigs will make it easier for those who have never tried drop shot fishing to try it and convenient for experienced anglers who just don’t have the time to tie their own rigs. The advantage of a Drop Shot rig is the ability to suspend a bait off of the bottom where it is easier for the fish to get and where it will stay in the strike zone. The length of the tag end can be adjusted to match the level where the fish are suspended. It’s a great finesse presentation since the bait is presented more naturally and almost perfectly parallel to the bottom every time. Because there are no weights or swivels between the angler and bait, this rig is far more sensitive than other rigs that have the weight placed before the bait. It can be fished vertically, or can be cast out and worked back on a retrieve. It’s a very versatile rig. These leaders feature Gamakatsu’s Split/Drop shot hook attached to 6 feet of premium monofilament. The hook is attached in the center of the line leaving a 3 foot long tag to let the angler choose the level to suspend the bait. The 3 feet on the other end allows anglers who are deep vertical jigging with braided line some separation between their line and the bait. They come packaged three leaders per pack and in three sizes: A size 4 hook with 6lb line, a size 2 hook with 8lb. line and a size 1 hook with 8lb. line. |
