I was using a spinning reel ...and that may have worked on that as well ..but as I was thinking about it.I'm not sure that would be good to put that kind of stress on the...


1. the reel's bail
2. the spool itself ...I only lost about 4 foot of line by snipping it off.
I just replaced the spool on this little Syncopate Shimano ..the inside clicking mechanism broke on me.
On a baitcaster ...no problem..just lock down your thumb on the reel and pull your little heart out.;)

ive used the palomar knot for a couple years and i love it. and its never broken me ever. the other knots just are garbage compared to this.

chuck it wont damage the reel or the bail at all and itll break right at the knot just above it in fact. The spool wouldve been fine to but i know what your talking about and it was better for you to be safe then sorry since you didnt know.;)

When using heavy braided line (or even heavy Mono), I use any type of wooden handle I have laying around (bait net usually). I wrap the line around it several times, and give it a tug to get the line (or hopefully the hook) to break. I was told a small piece of rebar works great as well, giving a little more grip to the line, so it's less likely to slip...Just a thought, if you have a small piece of rebar laying around.

I've never used the Palomar. I've been using the Crawford, Snell, Dropper Loop (deep sea rock cod) & Perfection Loop (for live bait) knots for the past 3 years with no untied/slipped knots. The Crawford has been my 'go to' knot for all terminal tackle with outstanding success.
