Drop Shot Questions..

First of all, I'd like to express my appreciation for all of you.I feel since I've communicated with all of you my bass fishing has gone up a couple notches. Since Josh mentioned drop shooting I've got a couple of questions ..some may be silly please have patience .

1. Is this the same think as wacky worm fishing?

2. Is it the same thing as Sinko fishing?

3. Would the best knot to use be a polomar knot .

4. What is the name of these rubber minnows Josh is talking about?

If I can catch 20 bass on shiners at my honey hole..how many fish can I expect to catch on this rig?

5. Is a 3/0 hook big enough?

Thanks guys,
C7

RE: Drop Shot Questions..

1. I dont wacky worm i take a gulp minnoworm and hook it right through the nose of the bait and slowly move the rod up and down making the worm work
2. Not at all near senko fishing if you ask me. but then againI dont fish senkos the normal way
3. It should work just fine. I put mine on a three way swivel with three uni knots.
4. I personally dont know, but likeI mentioned aboveI use gulp minoworms as well as zoom super salt flukes and sometimes ifI am fellin frogy Ill throw a lizzard on there, but make it a floatin lizard.
5. 3/0 is plentyI usually use a 2/0 in fact.
6. It is hard to beat live bait and different area of the US require different tactics there is no way to know if you will catch as many fish on the drop shot as you normally would on a shiner. The best advice i can give you is to get out there this weekend and fish your butt of and throw everything at them that you can think of until you catch fish after fish which seems like it hasnt been a problem for you here lately Chuck so I wouldnt worry about it to much.

I appreciate it Brent...

The deal is ..I'd like to find an artificail that works as good as live bait...there probably isn't one.
My son has a friend he works with who fishes a whole lot. He also fishes with 20 pound Power Pro and says we should not have gotten broken off. I agree. The breaks were not clean breeaks.{ There appeared to be a partial knot at the end of the breaks}I tied my hooks on with the improved clinch knot/ Trilene knot. This weekend I planto use the Polomar knot. I also agree the line should not have broke. I easily gave the Power Pro 10 twist ...The fish breaking the line were not huge hawgs..simply fish between 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 pounders. They diffently fought like they were on steroids...they felt like 6 pounders. My rod was literally slammng against the jon boat ...I figured the line and Team Diawa strengh was enough to just hold on..WRONG...The line snapped...from there on out I pushed the button and played my fish out. My spinning reels have wonderful drags and I plan to use them Sat. I've got Power Pro on them as well. I really don't like the drag mechanisms on bait casters...the braided linecan dig into the spool of line and one little stick up results in a lost fish..compared to a nice spinning real that just sings when the fish runs.

PS PowerPro works wonderful on the spinning reels..Cast as good as mono ..except no swirls..therefore it makes a great worm rod too.;)

You may have gotten a bad spool chuck have seen it once efore where the store let it sit in the back forgotten for a few years and itll snap like that but the way you described it was your not slipped to certain poin and then the pressure broke it. Just to let you know as well I HATE the clinch knot. i lost to many off of it and tied just like the book said. The uni knot has worked much much better for me and it is all use now except a bimini twist and the surgeons dropper loop.

Chuck, try the polamar knot with your braided line. I have used it for years and the knot has never failed me. The way you described the end of the line after it broke leads me to believe that your knot slipped and caused the break. In my opinion there is no reason not to use the polamar knot. It gives you a doubled line running through the eye of the hook. To me double line means double strength.;) Make sure you wet the line before you pull the not tight. I usually just stick it in my mouth right before I pull the knot tight. Hope this helps. You can also carry a cig. lighter with you and singe a small ball on the tag end of the line. This will also help keep your knot from pulling out. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.I certainly will be tieing the Palamar knot..It's hard breaking old habits...I 've been tieing the improved clinch for years...yeah..by the looks at the string it looks like a knot slipped. Some of those were decent fish Matt hooked on too.

I'll try the Palamar and loosen up a little on the drags..just a little,;)
