in all seriousness i dont know how you would run a trout contest...we all have different sized trout...most states is put and take stocking and fish arent very large

like westernMd said..if you catch a trout over 16" in PA youll most likely be in the paper! lol. i been fishing since i could walk and only got a handful over 16" theres a good number of areas you can find bigguns...but none around me...ive broken 20" one time in my life. so far.

maybe run it by just sheer numbers...i dont know...size really wont do justice...that fish in my pic is what..4 or 5"? thats my native brookies...3-10" my wild browns run 6-13 most of the time..my stocked trout range from 8-14 on average...

and my trout fishing is about done for the year...ill still catch a pile more trout...but the majority of my fishing will be done till fall or next early spring...

hhmmmmm well the only thing i could think of is narrow the contest down to one species that is everywhere such as rainbows and what we can do is have a different amount of points for different sizes so if you catch a ton of small ones and some other guy catchs a few big ones the guy with the lil guys still has a chance at winning. So like 1 point for 0-10", 2 points for 11-20", 3 points for 20" and over.Or we can do the a point for every fish you catch and if we do that we dont have to do any specific species so maybe this is the better way, but let me know what you think.

how bout just rainbows and browns. they are about equal. and then have fly rod vs spinning rod

Well if we go with size points then i wouldnt see a problem with stickin to browns and rainbows since they do both grow to the same size but if we do the a point per fish we can do all species.

As for the fly rod vs spinning rod i think that maybe too much, now if there were alot of guys willing to sign up then yah we could do that but for now i say lets just keep us all in one group.

A trout tournament would be great, but no matter what, geography is going to call the winner. Maybe not even west to east. There are just sections of the country that although they may even have decent trout fishing, still don't even know what REAL trout fishing can be like. I'd rather have just a permanent post where we can all continually submit pictures the we can all judge using the 1 to 10 scale with no official winner ever declared. I have seen some great pictures on here and have many myself (if I can ever figure out the technology:D)

I would win it for sure!!! Except for one tiny problem....

The only trout I have ever caught was steelheadfishing during the spawn! :D
