Worst time of the year!!

Man i hate this time of the year!!!!! Where i am all the rivers and streams are all muddy and fast due to run-off so the fishing blows so hey lets go to a lake. NOT!!! The only good lakes that are within a reasonable distance are either still frozen but not frozen enough to ice fish and the shore hasnt melted enough so i can at least throw some flies in there, or they are closed[:@][:@][:@] So the only place i can really fish is about 3 hours from me and im not a big fan of spending 6 hours on the road in a day and i cant do a weekend trip because most of the time im workin 6 day weeks. And on top of that i havent had a fish on the end of my line for about 2 weeks now. Im gunna go crazy, but till i can fish again ill just have to shoot some golphers:D:D:D

What did you say about the rivers and streams? You must have some native brookies up your way don't you? Ithink your area has them from what I have read about it. I could be wrong though. I have been having your same problem but, now some of the lakes are starting to become ice free. But, getting back to stream and river fishing. You must know some place where there is some ripps that empty into a pool. Gogive it a try I broke my curse yesterday with 2 nice brookies a 12 incher and a 14 incher. Nice fat native brookies in the slow biting cold and high water stream that I like to fish early in the season. Just think no flies biting you and not much of others fishing because it is to early. I preffer this type of fishing where those nasty flies can't bite me all up. When everyone else trys the trout I have already caught most of mine. As when those flies come out I am of to the lakes for the most part. Good Luck.

Yah Phil there are some nice streams with brookies in them the problem is that the water right now is so high and fast that its dangerous to fish them and when the streams get high there doesnt really tend to be many pools to fish, as for rivers, the one that is like 1 min from my house(Bow River) is really hard to fish this time of year due to the murkyness, ive tried fishing there before and every year i try in maybe 3 days of fishing ill catch maybe 2 fish but before runoff the fishing was awesome but i find this time of year up hear in the mountainous streams and rivers its just to dangerous or the fish are just hard to catch cause u got to get that food right in front of their faces.

RE: Worst time of the year!!

I fish the streams here early in the year and normally do ok, but the fishing is real slow and normally the bigger ones hit first. Here the water is about around 2 feet over flood stage right now, as it has dropped some over the last few days. The trout are in the pools just below the ripps. I do not know what your area is like for as far as accessing them though. Here we have small mountains that you would probally call hills by your definition. But I love hitting the trout just before and during the sucker run here. After the suckers run I may fish the ripps for a week or 2 and then off to the lakes and riversfor white perch and salmon. Good luck to you if you decide to give it a try and stay safe. You can always fish another day that way.
