RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
I'll be fishing the PA trout opener tomorrow...
SURE ,there will be lots of guys out there, but it's a traditional thing with some of my buddies.. We don't keep any trout, but on a good day we'll catch trout numbering in the double figures, on flies at that..It's fun... I enjoy fishing those remote, unfished streams too..I've been doing that here in NY and have caught some nice wild brown trout in the last two weeks....My best was just short of 20" and was caught on a stream where there were NO other boottracks than mine... Tomorrow, I'll witness the spectacle of opening day of trout season in Potter County, PA, and hopefully catch a few trout in the process.. |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
im going for trout on my fly rod again. im only gunna be able to do a couple hours becuz of storms. did bass today but no luck
|
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
I tried out the chatter bait today actually... It was pretty cold so the bass weren't very active but I managed to catch 3 of them on a chatter bait. All weighed <1lb. Caught about 6 more on a combination of yamamoto grubs (spider grubs) and tomato worm colored plastic worms. The other 6 average about 2lbs.

RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
Sport fishing in Wisconsin doesn't start till May so I will be out in about 5 hours fishing for crappie!!! If the bite is slow then I will head over to Lake Michigan for Salmon & trout!!!

LOL Probalbly similiar to opening day in Maryland. We were elbow to elbow. I turned to take my trout off and someone is in my spot...ticked me off. Then theres the work of keeping your rod tip from freezing up. |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
Im going after some channels and bullheads. Supposed to rain all day but as long as I catch fish it will be just fine, other wise just a waste of gas and probably misserable.
|
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
lol yep...thats pretty close chuck. im sorry to say i didnt get up to take pics. figured i rather just make the drive once. i kinda REALLY wanna fish later...just to wet a line. 3$ a gallon i dont like making 15mile trips for fun lol....
hopefully the rain settles in here quick...looks like its an hour or 2 away...am i wierd or what? hopeing for rain so i can go fsihin.... |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
Well guys my day was great. I wished I had someone to share the fun with..With power pro I keep my drag pretty darn tight and I still had a few fish pull on that drag.:)I thought for sure my 4 3/4 bass was a good solid 6. She fought very hard for about 45 seconds.
Well, the spawn is diffently here.I saw lot's of big bass on the beds. I'll be fishing alot from here through the end of April. Monday is supposed to be a very good day if you fish by the moon. |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
No fishing for me yet since the lake still has some ice on it. I had a small umbilical hernia fixed on Wed so I am still a little sore. Probably will lay low for a week or so then ...watch out pan fish because here I come.

RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
Right back at ya Chuck. I always have plenty of room and the smalleys are always hungry. I had the hernia fixed betweensafe ice out and turkey/ pan fish season. Pretty good planning huh.
I just love life.:D |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
I had a super day on Kettle Creek in PA...
Yeah, lots of guys, and to make things worse, they had dumped HUNDREDS of trout in a few holes close to the road and , of course, the fisherman were concentrated on those holes where the FISH were.. Still, it wasn't so crowded you couldn't get a good spot to fish.... My partner told me he guessed I caught 50 trout...I'm thinking he was exaggerating, but I sure did catch a LOT of fish..Probably the most trout I've ever caught in a day...I had a ball...I also released them all... My partner caught his share too, includinga beautiful palimino, about two pounds... The hot ticket was a # 14 olive bead head hare's ear nymph , fished with a foam strike indicator about 4 feet above the fly.... |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
WOW Dan! We both did real good and we both released all our fish too.
Good deal man. |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
I had a good day for my area in somerset county pa on the trout stream . Crowds were fairly slow this year compared to usual arm to arm tangled up messand fishing my favorite hole proved to be no problem. Ended the day out with catching 10 trout keeping a few nice ones for the supper table and releasing the rest. Id love to be able to fish a trout stream where I could catch the trout in the numbers you guys talk about! That totally blows my mind!
|
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
I hear ya..LOL Back in my day 10 trout in one outing was a decent day. We could keep 5...and I certainly would. Freshwater trout is about as good as it gets.
Congrats., looks like alot of us were out fishing yesterday. |
RE: Whose gone fishing tomorrow..
I do like to eat trout, although I think the flavor of WILD trout ( or trout who have been in the stream for a long time) is superior to freshly stocked trout....I have mixed emotions about killing wild fish, since I consider them a relatively rare resource...Usually I only keep the ones that are hooked deeply enough that they may not survive...
Stocked trout are OK to eat and I often keep a few for a meal...However I much prefer bluegills or perch.... As far as catching NUMBERS of trout, I've fished bait and various spinning lures like spinners for years , and caught fish, but not in the numbers that I have caught them since I've become relatively competent with my fly rod... Yesterday on Kettle there were people fishing all kinds of bait and lures and most were catching some fish, but it seemed like the people using fly tackle and weightednymphs were outfishing most of the rest by 3 or 4 to one...It's an absolutely deadly method once you get the hang of it, and it's not difficult to learn... For me, a critical part is to use some kind of a strike indicator... Strikes on nymphsare often very subtle and hard to detect... Now if I'm fishing for really BIG trout in a stream, it's hard to beat a nice, juicy live 'crawler, but that's a different story altogether..;)... |
