So what's in your fly vest?
 

I'm consider starting fly fishing and decideing what I need to get. So I wonder what you guys bring with you? Also maybe what product or why?

This is what I think I need to bring-
fly box-always needed
multitool-can fix anything!
binoculars-see what the trout are doing and other fisherman:D
nail clippers-the regular drug store type
camera-never know what you'll see
split shots-usefull.
rain gear-mad dog gear hunting coat
led flaslight and matches- in a plastic bag
twix-I'll probably work up an appetite

Also I need to know what flies I'll need to catch brook and brown trout in eastren ontario.

My fly vest contains, for the full catch trout or die trying expedition:

leader wallet, containing factory tapered leaders in several sizes and lengths as well as some hand-tied leaders for special situations and two shooting heads and a sinkinking leader or two

5spools of tippet material 0X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 6Xand when latesummer flows have the streams down 7X

foam strike indicators

putty indicator

Dinsmore lead and lead-substitute split shot(I like Dinsmore because it's English and therefore classy:D)

Angling Evolutions Shake-N-Float fly-dry powder/floatant and a bottle of Fly Sauce

a bottle of Gerkhe's Xink to apply to leaders

Loon Outdoors Sun Set Super Patch, a UV activated wader patch that works on wet or dry neoprene

nippers, hemostats, jig eye clearer(really helps to clean out head cement if you tie your own flies) and hook sharpener

spare reels(for my 5 wt.) or spare spools(for the 6 wt. and 8 wt.) with a wf-f, dt-f, and a sink-tip and if I'll be fishing stillwater or deep slackwater above a dam a dt full sinking line

the spare spools/reels go in the back pocket with a rain jacket and a bag of granola or trail mix and water bottle, camera

landing net is clipped to the back as well

and then there are the fly boxes:D:Dthat would be a whole other topic, but generally 1 box of streamers, a Scientific Anglers System Xflybox 1 side weighted numphs-1 side unweighted nymphs and emergers, 1 box of dries(typically generic Adams, Near Nuff's, etc., 2 or 3 kinds of caddis and a stonefly or two) and a small box of wets

and after I get it all in there it only weighs 20 or 30 lbs.:D

You just reminder me of fly fishing! My father-in-law was a Fly Fisherman from NW NC and when he died I thoughtmy wifewas going to recieve his Rod's & Reels, but was given all tohis first grandson.

All I was interested in was a Split Bamboo Fly Rod that he used for many years.

Grizzly had it about covered...There's one other thing that I'd never want to forget... Bug dope...

Of course, Mallard, where YOU live,that's a GIVEN for any outdoor activity, especially late May and June...

mallard, for a complete list of regionally specific flies, I'd suggest looking at various online bookstores for a guidebook to Ontario. A good one will have hatch charts for major rivers and you can make some educated guesses based on geography as to what will work in your area. That said I wouldn't leave for any stream in N America without these flies:

for late season a hopper pattern is a necessity-size to match the natural

I know that looks like a lot but if youconfine the sizes you buy or tie to those closest to the naturals in your area, you eliminate half the list. You'll want to check with a local fly shopto get absolutely dialed in and they'll sell you what you need for the area without a lot of stuff you don't need.
