Browning Midas Baitcast Reel

Hey guys I am considering buying the browning midas reel that BPS has on sale right now for 99.88. It is originally 149. Have any of you used this reel or heard any reviews on it. It looks like a nice reel but I haven't had the opportunity to mess with one. I am looking for a reel with a 7.1 gear ratio. At this price this seems to be the best deal I can find. This reel also includes a 10 bb system. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Here is the link.

I considered that model when I purchased a new reel a few weeks ago. I was also looking for the same gear ratio that you are. Check out this model from Bass Pro that is also on sale right now.I am really happy with it and I think that it is a better reel.

I have owned two johnny morris sig. series reels and I had trouble with both of them. After about a years worth of use, one of them starting making a grinding sound in the gears and eventually locked up completley. And on the other one the chrome finish started to chip off after a years use andstarted gouging me in the hand. So needless to say I will notbuy another. However, BPS did replace the reels, andat this point are still holding up ok. I heard that this was a common problem with the 05 and 06 models so maybe they have corrected them on the 07's. However, thanks for the input, and I hope you have a better experince with that reel than I did. I'm still leaning towards the browning. I figure for a $99 its worth givingit a shot. Who knows I could be wasting my money.

I haven't heard of that problem with the Johnny Morris reels before. I hope that I don't have any problems.

Hey guys I ordered the browning midas last night. I figured I might as well order it and quit talking about it. Rebel hog, I will give you a review on the reel as soon as I get it in and use it, if you are still interested in buying one. Let me know. I hope I made a good decision. Talk at you cats later.

RE: Browning Midas Baitcast Reel

Hey guys, recieved my reel on Saturday. Upon first inspections of the reel I notice it to be a little bulkier than I expected, but it wasn't too big. It still fit my hand nicely. I also noticed that it was one of the smoothest reels I have ever handled and def. the smoothest that I have ever owned. I bought a daiwa viento last spring and it retails for $200.00 dollars and the browning was even more smooth than it. Sunday I attached the reel to my 6'6" Medium action BPS bionic blade rod and spooled it with some 50# power pro braided line. While spooling the reel I couldn't help but notice how smooth it was. And by god this is the first 7.1:1 reel I have ever owned and let me tell you these reels can crank in some line. 31" per handle turn. Furthermore, I got a chance to head out to the lake yesterday evening and give her a try. The reel cast very smoothly and can cast great distances. I also found that this reel is almost impossible to backlash with the Fail Safe Cast Control System that it utilizes. So far I am very pleased. I fished with this reel on and off using a chatterbait for about an 1.5 hours and had no takers. So, to make a long story short I am yet to catch a fish on it and really put it through the paces. All-in-all I am very pleased so far. I would recomend this reel to anyone for 99.00. Hope thishelps. I will let you guys know how she does if theweather ever straightens up and I get a chance to catch a fish on her.
