Serious pond question!!!!!!
We built a pond last July by damning up a holler, rivine, spring, etc. It is about half full and it will be just over an acre when full. This year I have noticed that there is a little stream flowing out the backside of the damn. We put in a key way and built our damn out of clay. Should I be concerned, if so , can I fix it.

RE: Serious pond question!!!!!!
When my pond was first built, it filled up about halfway just from a spring. It filled up completely with one good rain, and it also leaked around the dam. It did this until the dam settled and packed, it did it for about a year.

RE: Serious pond question!!!!!!
In my area, it's tough to maintain small ponds , especially when built on creeks, ravines, or gulleys, when we get some heavy gulley washing rainstorms...
Your keyway, or overflow, might help, but I've seen lots of ponds washed out in flash floods... You might want to enlist professional advice...Good luck... |
RE: Serious pond question!!!!!!
concrete it;) in all honesty though, there are air pockets in the dam until it settles.
