Went Through Some Crap(pie) Last Week
 

Last week on my spring break I went fishing a few times. We caught almost exclusively males moving up into the shallower stuff, probably preparing nests. The water temp is getting warmer and the spawn is about to turn on. We ended up with pretty good stringers.7 one day and 8 another. Got a few slabs. We were jigging beneath a cork with green on green tubes about 3 feet deep around stumps and sunken tree beds. Anyways, just wanted to brag on my fishing expeditions last week and show off some pics.

Nice one man! Sounds fun, It's too cold up here to go on the boat but I can go out on the ice.

Great looking fish. I wish I had crappie that size on the lake that I fish. Those will definetly make a great meal though.

Froman...Those are some bodacious slab crappies...I see you catch both black and white...

Here in the northeast the blacks are much more common, but the whites are dominant in some specific waters, like Whitney Point Reservoir north of Binghamton, NY... I personally have never caught a white crappie..

Any difference in flavor, fight, or any other significant quality...??..

I've never had a crappie fight worth a damn... Even ones over 1lb!

The blacks and whites are pretty much identicle. We usually catch more whites down here than blacks, but the blacks usually have more body mass to em. The whites are more slender and long and the blacks are thicker.

Certain lakes produce more of one or the other but every one of the things tastes like...well, dang good fish. I like to eat crappie more than any of the others.

i usually only catch whites and an ocassional black

I fish small ponds about 1-2 acers today i went out fishing around 4;00 caught 4 nice bass 3 bluegill and 12 crappies but as i always do i put them back i just enjoy cathing fish help me relax, alot of my freinds say i'm crazy for throwing them back as i said i just like to catch and let them go 1 time out of the year i'll keep them
