salmon fishing in Cape Breton (update)
I just got home from fishing the margaree river for a day and a half. The pool that i fished was full of salmon in the 10 -30 lb range but there were a rare few who would take a fly.I didnt catch any myself but raised 5 and lost another who broke my leader clean while setting the hook, and one of my buddies caught a fish around 38" and approxmetly 20 lbs. I have to say its one beutiful place to be and the people are friendly and abundant.

RE: salmon fishing in Cape Breton (update)
Sounds like fun.
I go up to the Salmon River in NY a couple times a year for the Kings... but it is so crowded it almost isn't enjoyable. Just got back from Lake Ontario last night after fishing 2half days for kings. Very slow. We got 3 (24, 20, & 14lb) and lost 4. Slow days out. |
RE: salmon fishing in Cape Breton (update)
The pool i fished wasnt exactly crowded but there were many people fishing it. Im not sure about The salmon river but in margaree its an unwritten rule that when fishing in the run you must rotate the pool, make 3 casts and take a step down and so on. so even if there are many people there the pool isnt actually that crowded.

Yeah that sure sounds like fun and that you enjoyed it. Fishing for Atlantics were like that here ( rotation thing ) until they became an
endangered spieces and closed all the rivers down.[:@]They are currently trying to open the Penobscot back up to barbless catch and release fishing. I sure hope they can. |
