filet knvies???
 

hey everyone... i need a new filet knife.. the one i have now is some off brand and it wont hold an edge for anything. i had to sharpen it 4 times yesterday while cleaning up some fish... so i need some recommendations on knives... eletric or conventinal...what company... anything is helpful and wanted..

YES I highly recommend the little 4inch Rapala {Wooden Handle } at Walmart. Stays sharp and is the best filleting knife I've own. About 8.00
I'm buying one payday. I've made a lot but....nothing beats filleting bluegills than one of those babies. Real nice knife.

I agree with Chuck, those knife's are handy to have around!!! My mom has one just to use around the kitchen. My uncle spends like $15 for a electric knives made for sliceing bread. Run them until the burn up and go buy another. They work good and are cheap.

Back in the 70's we use to make them from Industrial Hacksaw Blades, 2" X 18" and then grind, shape, handled and sharpened.

schrade makes a nice fileting knife. non slip handle, flexible blade and it holds an edge. the blade is 8" i think

I like using the folding buck fillet knife, but I have heard that the
electric fillet knifes work really well.

I will second that one they make a great knife. Ive filleted hundreds of crappie and never had to sharpen it other then a little honing with a beaver stone now then.

I often fillet a bucket or two of bluegills and a few crappie especially in the winter. I use an electric fillet knife for the task. I do own a Rapala 4" to cut out the belly bones afterI slab the gill. I can usuallyfillet about 3 to 4 per minute with the electric knife.

I have the mechanical rapala filet knife that have two different length blades. What a machine.Works great.
