Finally hooked into a nice bass and lost it at the bank...
I hooked into a big momma bucket mouth on monday then lost her about 10 feet from the bank. I had her barely hooked in the lower jaw.... she would have easily been 8 to 9 lbs with a mouth you could fit two fists in. Atleast I finally hooked into a nice fish. I was using a texas rigged 7 inch berkley power worm, purple with blue flake. I nailed her off a point at the mouth of a creek in about 10 feet of water. Im dissapointed I lost her but at the same point im really happy I finally got a big bass to bite.

Great situation...10 feet deep is a great depth for fishing anytime of the year. Great bait {Kind of expensive worm} but great worm. And points with running water. PERFECT!!!
My oldest son wants me to take him shiner fishing this Sat. I hope we get the one that I lost twice this year. She pulls like a mack truck. You did good to get yours close to shore. I haven't had this fish on for more than 2 seconds. She flat out over powers me. This fish is on the edge of a jungle of hydrilla and about 10 feet deep as well. Shiners are expensive but even in the dawg days I use them all up.
God bless,

there not terribly expensive about 4 bucks for 15 worms. my other choice of worm is a riverside now known as YUM 7 inch ribbon tail worm which is about 3 bucks for 15 worms. Ive tested the two against each other and from my experience a bass will hold onto a power worm longer. so i generally prefer power worms.

howmuch are shiners there in your neck of the woods? its been a few years since ive bought shiners but back in missouri I could get a dozen medium shiners for about 2 bucks and large for 3 bucks a dozen which wasnt too bad but I ended up getting a throw net and would catch my own live bait to cut against the cost of live bait. you might try goldfish for some reason they were cheaper then shiners, but i dont know about there in FL.

Gold fish illegal..and they do check you out in Florida. Been searched about 6 times.
Shinersare the best bait though and I should have used them earlier.
