Newfie Salmon trip...
Just got back from a salmon fishing trip that I have been doing with my brother and other family and friends. It was a tough week, but most of us managed to bring home our fish.
If you've never done it, I would highly encourage you to go. Great rivers, awesome people, and a wonderful opportunity to get into some great fish. Sorry, no pics; fish are already in the freezer and will get canned this weekend. Cheers, |
RE: Newfie Salmon trip...
What part of the rock did you go to? I have hunted there but never tried the fishing. Did you get Atlantic or Landlocked salmon?...Frank

Amen to that Keith.;)
I'm using a lap down now. My other computer got zapped by lightning last night. I think my tennis partner can fix it. He did before on a different one. C7 |

I think most likely Atlantics there. Did you ever fish the Merramichi
River? The river up there is great fishing for salmon or brook trout. Also if your up there check out the Merramichi Inn they have great hunting and fishing deals. |
RE: Newfie Salmon trip...
Yes Frank, they were Atlantics. I fished in the southeastern part of the province, about 60 km east of Port aux Basque. Great part of the world; great people; but very difficult to get there. We drove 15 hours to North Sydney, NS; ferry overnight to Port aux Basque; hour drive east to Rose Blanche; 3 hour ferry ride to the mouth of the river; 3 mile hike to camp. All in all, I think we lose 2.5 days just in travel. I'm trying to find a new venue closer to home and will likely find something in either Gaspé or lower north shore, QC.
I haven't fished Miramichi, but would be concerned of having my line crossed by other fisherman (anybody that has fished Salmon River in Pulaski, NY knows what I'm talking about). Yeah, it was too bad I forgot my camera as the amount of wildlife we saw was impressive; 30-40 bou; 3-4 moose; osprey; rabbits; etc... Here are some pictures from the same trip last year to give you an idea of the surroundings and if you look close up on one of them; you should be able to see a local river resident. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...2/DSC00075.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...2/DSC00070.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...2/DSC00076.jpg Cheers, |

Great pics of the rock. I went Bou hunting the last 3 years up there and really enjoyed the travel through that province. The drive is just about the same for me coming from northern Vt. Last year we towed a uhaul trailer and 4 of us went up in 1 truck. Our cabin is about 6-7 hours from the ferry. Sad to say we aren't doing that trip this year but will be doing a road trip to Colorado for elk. I have spent some time in Polaski and I know just what you are talking about. Crazy fishing best describes that place.
