rough day

Couldnt wait to get off work today to hit a smallmouth hole in a creek with a new pole. I ordered a quantum ultralight spinner from basspro and it was supposed to be here today(I've never used an ultralight before, medium action my whole life). By reading the note left by the UPS guy I missed him by less that 15 minutes! I decide to hit the hole anyway, as soon as we get there it starts to thunder. I made probably 10 casts in the water as it thundered, thinking i wouldnt make a worthless trip. Lightning struck EXTREMELY close to us, the friend i was with just sank down in the water thinking we were done. The hair on my neck stood up, I FELT it hit. We were next to an electrical station, within 50 yrds and my friend says he saw it hit a pole on the station, I was turned the other way and didnt see it. Needless to say in about 2 hops we were in my truck. Guess I just wasnt thinking but being in the water with a metal rod next to an electrical station during a storm in hindsight is not my brightest idea :-) sorry for the long post guys but be careful

glad your still with us buddy, lightning is bad news, several years ago a man got struck by lightning on guntersville lake, not a cloud in sight, he was awaken 3 hours later by some other fisherman, his eyes were messed up for 2-3 weeks, all his electronics in his boat were shot, it would not even crank, ruined every depth finder on the boat[:@]

I am glad you are alright too, a friend of mine about 10 years ago
a lightning storm came up andafter landing his boat and was pulling the bow up on shore was killed by it. The lightning hit the lake and came up the boat.

Last year while fishing by a bridge a bright flash of lightning came by me.
When I got home I was freezing and it was warm out. Both my shoulders were sore and it lasted about three days. Still not sure what caused it
but I am very careful around lightning.

Stay well away from electrical sub stations. You can get a substantial ground rise voltage generated to anything that is at a different ground potential than the station ground grid. This can happen up to a quarter mile away from the station.
