Could someone explain colors to me?

Does one color usually seem to work better than others during certain conditions. Like, I would think bright colored baits would work better in darker conditions, but from what I read, blacks and purples work better. Or am I correct, just reading wrong?

RE: Could someone explain colors to me?

it honestly all depends! I know on clear water i like to use natural colors. For something that imitates a crayfish like tans, browns, burnt oranges, and for baitfish i like white or pearl. The thing with the dark baits in stained water is that it creates a profile that the fish see without actually seeing the bait in all its color.....

i know someone else will explain it so much better than i can, but thats what i have heard and use...and it works well for me

There are no hard-and-fast rules in selecting lure colors; confidence may be the most important factor in this process.
I liked this quote. I don't think color is that important. I beleive the most important is lure presentation. Bass are aggressive . I only have stuff in my tackle box that I have confidence in . I do try to match the hatch when fishing. Our bass here primarilly feed on gizzard shad. They are white in color witha little black dot. This is why I use white Rooster tails.

color is pretty simple really.

when fishing plastics, purple, black, watermelon pepper/seed, and green pumkin will work 99% of the time - just pick one.

jigs, white, black/blue, brown will all work - just pick one anda matching trailer.

topwaters - i dont think it matters as long as the belly is white.

and crankbaits, try and match what the bass are feeding on - look in the shallow for minnows. on the lakes I fish, there is almost always someone throwing a cast net at the launch for the day's bait. Ask them to show you one of the baitfish, and match is as closely as possible.

I usually use green just because I have caught a lot of fish on them ut I am planning on trying some new colors.
