RE: Wisconsin Trout w/ Pics
Nice fish, is that a spring creek? Glad ya got out. I have been hitting it hard in the UP but with all this cold weather havent found may bugs and fewer fish. It isgoing to warm up today and things should startpoping.
chuck lucks like a mixed bag, Browns and brooks. |
RE: Wisconsin Trout w/ Pics
Those are some good looking fish, congrats!
I have to say though, I am fairly certain that first fish is like no brookie I've ever seen.... it looks like a tiger trout to me, a cross between a brookie and a brown.. which only makes it better becasue that is a rare fish... do two seperate googleimage searches for tiger trout and brook trout... you will see the difference. |
RE: Wisconsin Trout w/ Pics
Osprey, you could be right, tock a better look at it and saw that there were no spots, also it looks likeit has a gill clip, thatpoints to the mad scientists at the DNR. The one tiger trout that I saw lookes alittle more like a brown then that. Those crazy mixes dont happen all that muchin my area (do they even happen in the wild)and the only mix the DNRplants (as far aschar go) are splake. How can a Char spawn with a true trout????

RE: Wisconsin Trout w/ Pics
I have never been fortunate enough to catch one in the wild, but they do ocur naturally; however, they are sterile...
I have not heard of any state dnr, or dept of fish and wildlife actually raising and stocking tigers, though some private organizations do. I would imagine most of the tigers caught are natural... a char can spawn with a true trout because they are not that far off... they are a part of the same family (salmonidae)they only differ inthe genus and specific epithet... |
RE: Wisconsin Trout w/ Pics
The only places I know of them to be planted are in fish ponds in Lower MI, I dont know who dose the planting. I saw one once about 10 years ago, I didnt catch it. Only reason I knew what it was was because it was a planted pond and I was told that was all that was in there. Most high-breads cant reproduce because they have an odd number of chromosomes, I wonder if that is the case here.
All in all it is a cool fish and dang good job UPhunter. |
RE: Wisconsin Trout w/ Pics
I have to agree with you folks that is not a brook trout I've caught alot of brookies and none even came close to looking like that. The clip from the gill tells me it is a stocked fish too. I'm not to sure on what kind of fish it is as we do not have tigers here. It does look simular to some of the splake that we catch here as they carry different patterns on them.
