Disappointment on the Delaware River
 

It was quite frustrating fly-fishin up there this past week. I had only a handful of opportunities with some serious rising trout and it was sooo freakin' crowded. Fishing conditions seemed perfect (overcast and calm) but occasional showers (and being harassed by all the watercraft and fisherman)seemed to keep the fish from committing to surface flies.

Over priced---Over crowded--be a long while before I could say yes to that again.


Next serious trip: MT at the end of June. The fish might as well surrender now:D:D:D

I know the what you mean, that is why I drag my butt way off the beaten path to catch small brook trout, no one else will "waste" there time doing it. I gave up the big rise areas for the smaller less active areas a while back and lets just say I dont regreat it. So far this trout season I have only seen 2 other people on the river, one was my Dad and we were fishing together that day, and the other was a freind who I ran into as the branch he fishes merges with the one I fish.

How has the season been going so far, other then this last trip. Mine is off to a slow start because of rain and cold, we had snow a week ago and frost this am. Not many bugs yet and cold water has keeped fish down. I have had some luck, landed alot of respectible brook troutsome in the 12in rangeand some how landed a 19in brown on 2lb test in some vary fast water(I think it is the same brown I caught last year, same hole same fly, just an .5in bigger. Itold the story last spring on here).

MT in June, dosent get any better then that, or dose it, AK in August ;), we will say its a tie.The party shouldbe in full swing in June, good luck. Dont forget the Hummpies,yellow size 12.

The season around here has been alright. I caught some nice browns (12-14'') a couple of weeks ago in a river 2 hours from here.

Unfortunately, that is about as close as the decent wild trout fishing is to me as far as travel time. I do a lot of spin-fishing for smallmouths here closer to home (which can be good). I got spoiled living in MT for three years and now its hard to get excited too much around here. Rising fish are still good though no matter the size. I got a lot of irons in the fire around heretoo (new wife, tryin' for babies, opening a new business) to do much exploring--next year will hopefully be better.

You nailed that. We've been going to this same little cabin high up on one of the freestoners, same time of year and have hit itperfectly (knock on wood) each time so far. Cutthroats--lots of them--along with a smattering of rainbows and browns.
