Default New Rod and Reel Setup

Well I finally got my birthday present a month later. But worth the wait. I got a Quantum Accurist AC501PT (thats the left hand model the right hand is the 500) with a cabelas TXS casting rod heavy action for worms and jigs. I put Berkley Vanish Transition in 20 lb test. The line is the coolest part, when I got it out of the box it looked like regular and not the gold I was hoping for, but when I got it out in the sunlight it turned to a soft gold color with is really cool, then when you reel it back in on your spool it changes back to its orginal color. These baitcasters are hard to master though, I am new to them been a spinner my whole life, so I have been practicing with the baitcaster cant wait to get it out on the water. Just have to wait another week for memorial weekend then its fishing for three days

If you're really having trouble with the Baitcaster about the only hint I've found is to actually go UP in wieght (both lures and line.) Thicker line isn't so tempermental (but it sounds like you definately want to keep the line you've got) and, believe it or not, if you set the tensioner right the heavier lure-heavier tension combination is a little more forgiving of your thumb's timing.

Good luck, I'm in kinda the same boat with the baitcasters.

I'v never tried baitcasters and don't plan on it right now because my uncle got one and could only cast adout 10 feet. But then again he isn't the best fisherman in the world.

I have also always been a spinning person too.

when I first tried a bait caster I couldnt cast farther than 5 feet, I was like holy crap this is hard. But out of neccesitie I had to use the baitcaster becuase I need something that could accomdate heavier line and what not. Now that I have practiced with it I can come within 2 inchs of my target at 40+ feet. The baitcaster is kinda comfortable too, the acs which is the brake on my reel is amazing if you want a good beginners reel get a qauntum Accurist AC500PT it is a perfect beginners reel.
