Actually Chuck, if he was running a 85 hp, chances are you werent going much faster than 35- 40mph. Remember though, boats and outboards lose their value very fast. I picked up a spare 115 hp. 1985 for $450.

Gamblers are indeed very fast boats. A completely different level about triton and Ranger, but the tritons and rangers handle rough water much better. My boat of choice would be a nice Allison with a 225 Etec HO on the back

The Ranger had a motor well over 175.HP.I was on that boat a few years ago.Remember though, boats and outboards lose their value very fast. I picked up a spare 115 hp. 1985 for $450.

josh no etec you gotta go merc and allisons are just to light and the notros are good boats but no need for the verado the optimax gets better milage more speed and they are lighter. we have a brand new mako and get extremly good gas mileage for the ocean we ran at least five trips and burnt a half tank of gas

allisons are just to light
have you ever been in one, they ride and drive great even in rough water, they are a fine boat, the only two drawbacks ihave ever seen with them is the lay-out, and i don't like sitting flat on the floor, and those are just my personel prefrences, but if your serious about speed, allison, stroker, and a few others that slip my aging memory would be the ticket, all the hulls today are light years ahead of the hulls they replaced. while ranger may not be the fastest hull on the water it is a fine built boat, the triton also share something in common with the ally's the hull design had help from darris allison, if you want to learn more about paul or darris allison do a search on them, jerry jaco and companyhave set numerious speed records in allisons, myself my old lead sled will do just fine @68-72 on GPSdepending on load and fuel, in fact i am finding alot of times it catches more fish than any of the hot rod boats, but them guys sure look like their having fun rippin down the river at 90+, granted at times the extra speed would be handy, but the times i have fished out of allisons, bullets, bumble bees, i would have much rather been in my boat, mine rides like a caddy, a big slow caddy[:-], but it serves my purpose, catchin fish

Every tournament angler must run on rough water from time to time. How you fare depends on your boat’s design, how your boat is rigged, and, of course, your driving skill. If you fall short in any of these areas, you’ll suffer an unnecessary beating. In swells taller than 4 feet or so, a bad move could have you swimming for your life.
not sure in your example, but i have fished all over the U.S. and i know what rough water is, no bass boats will run flat out in "ocean like waves" not happening, driving ability is one of the biggest factors in theregard to how rough the ride is, ever been in a 21' bass boat with someone who dosen't know how to handle bad water, i have been in 18' boats with people that know what there doing and been fine, to me the driver is the biggest factor

BTW i won't bash any brand of boat, cause if you fished in any of the older junk i've been in you'd see the new rigs are light years ahead of the crafts they replace

have a good night, keith
