RE: What kind of Fish is this?
Needle nose gar. You aught to see the Aligator gar we have down here. Mouth like a gator and a body like a needle nose, except they reach hundreds of pounds.
The needle nose are just starting to spawn down here. Im headed out this weekend to shot a few with my bow. Great fisht to bow fish for. |
RE: What kind of Fish is this?

RE: What kind of Fish is this?
i have snagged a few needle nose gar in the river before.....scary looking fish

RE: What kind of Fish is this?
yup a gar.....we have spotted gar and long nosed gar around these parts.
They're actually a lot of fun to catch. They'll eat about anything, but you can catch them best on dead minnows. I know a few guys around here that during the spring when they're about to spawn tie a short length of rope to the end of a leader and drag it across te surface. The gar will strike and get their teeth hung up in the rope and catch and release is a lot simpler. GH |
RE: What kind of Fish is this?
we use dead minnows, or we use big poopers and spot fish for them. just cast out clsoe to one....give it a littel jerk and let it set......they explode on top....or usea small bluegill with a float

RE: What kind of Fish is this?
i hate them and have caught more than i would ever want to in my life so i am now gonna try to start shotting them with the bow

RE: What kind of Fish is this?

RE: What kind of Fish is this?
Man if I ever caught one of those things I wouldn't even think about realeasing it I'd shoot it or kill it some other way
|
RE: What kind of Fish is this?
We catch them all the time on the river when using cut shad or worms. They are a pain to get off trotlines. I have had to take 2 swallowed hooks out of them the last 2 days on one of my trotlines I have set out.
