RE: Pond Stocking Q's UPDATE

Looks like they will be supplying Largemouth Bass this spring (early June) and Bluegill in the fall (October)
I would strongly suggest you stock about 500 fathead minnows now before they stock the bass.

listen to josh and get some minnows in their andmaybe a few leeches.

i think you made a good choice on what to stock i work at a trout hatchery in the summer and we stock for people and trout are by far the biggest pain.

if i had my own pond i would have: bass, bluegill, perch,a few catfish and maybe 3 or 4 carp in it. good luck and let us know how it turns out

RE: Pond Stocking Q's UPDATE

I would think you would want to check out what the temp.
of the water is during summer months before stocking. As
trout do well in cold water and bass do well in warm water.
Also is the water hard or soft, this would help you out in
what type of fish to stock. And minnows would be very
usefull to have in your pond.

Josh,
They will be stocking small fingerlength Bass and Bluegill. Having said that, is it still necessary for the minnows?

After the first year I would be or within six months from stocking would probably be better.

Once a bass reaches 6" or so, it will shift over to mostly small fish and crayfish as its diet. You can either let the 6" bass eat smaller minnows, or smaller bass. Your call, but I'd stock the minnows ASAP.
