Its a little early to get too excited about it, but anyone here like to go after turtles and frogs?

Well, I've got a .75 acre lot here that's full of night crawlers. You're welcome to 'em, although i highly suggest waiting until April. But I warn you, I only permit fair-chase hunting of them where you use a birthday candle instead offlashlight, even though it does make it difficult to avoid tripping over the homeless people:).

We used to put a steak on a big hook and toss it out into the lake. A few hours later...pull it in...and usually there would be a huge turtle on the other end of it.

Other than that...I've hooked a few on accident bass fishing.

Pat,

I generally catch the snappers on jug lines baited with chicken gizzards. I have snagged a few while bass/blue gill fishing. That was a hell of a fight.

I LOVE turtle! Once it starts to warm up and hunting seasons over ill be out there fishing. I use bush hooks with steak for bait.

If you love turtle, you should try turtle sauce piquante. Soft-shell turtle is good too. I have a cousin who lives on the Imperial river in southwest Florida. In late summer you can fish with rod-n-reel with cut mullet for bait and catch soft-shells until your arms ache.

I saw a show from Michigan one time when they were catching snappers with just there hands and the guy had admitted that he had been bitten only once in all the years of doing it. All I got to say is NO THANK YOU...

Yeah, handfishing AKA "noodling" is pretty rough business. The philosophy is that turtles always crawl headfirst into a hole, so when you reach in, you can grab them from the back. My concern has always been whether or not the turtle had enough room in the hole to turn around.

yea ive never ate turtle and ussually try to stay away from foods like that, my neighbor at the lakes eats them and once we caught a huge on on the road on the way to the lakes and we put it in a cooler, i was so scared sitting next to that cooler when i could here him scratchin all over in there and was worried he was gonna get out
