RE: Please Help! 870 or Benelli Nova?????
I would have to vote for the Nova too, last year my 870 actually
froze-up on me. When the freezing rain turned to snow I could not
get it to pump! I bought a nova the next day one heck of a
duck & goose gun. I have an old Rem. model 31-A built before
the 870 30" full choke and it still will shoot the pants off the newer
870's. But you need to take into consideration what you will be
hunting, and in what conditions you will be hunting. But I still
love the Nova.

870 without any hesitation. I sold a 870 super mag when the nova came out. Biggest mistake i have ever made. It constantly jammed shotting 3.5 inch shells and benelli told me i wasn't pumping hard enough to allow the shot round to clear the gun before the second shell was loaded. The following year I bought another 870 and will never buy benelli again. Bottom line, they are cheaper and more reliable guns, service is better through remington, and there are parts/accessories for them everywhere.

Well if you want a PLASTIC gun then get the nova. I mean that literally. The receiver is plastic with a thin metal skeleton molded into it for the bolt to slide on. Actually the receiver and the buttstock are all one big molded plastic piece. Yes I know there are many polymer framed hand guns out there but they are not shooting 3.5 inch shot gun shells either. Benelli makes a good gun but IMHO the nova is not one of them.
Sorry but I prefer to have my barrel, receiver, and bolt lock up metal to metal.
Get the 870.

It is also cheaper than the 870. You can get a black one for $300 or a camo one for $350.

870! Absolutely the best pump shotgun made, period. I haven't seen the military or any local police depts running out and buying the Nova's for a replacement. Think I'll stick with my 870.

Every Nova I have ever seen has been cheaper than a 870 super mag. The camo super mag cost more than $350. As far as the Glass Reinforced polymer reciver goes mine has taken a pounding and hasn't had a problem yet. It also will not rust like an 870 which is a big plus when waterfowl hunting. Take down takes 1 minute and requires no tools. The safety is located in a better spot (in front of the trigger not behind it), the Nova has a convinent magazine disconect that the 870 doesn't have, add the recoil reducer and the Nova is heavier then the 870 so it doesn't kick as much with 3 1/2" shells. The Nova floor plate also stays up so you don't have to fight it like the 870. The Nova has a 5 year waranty and I belive Remington only offers a 2 year waranty. My dads 870 failed me the first time I used it, my Nova has been through 3 seasons of 3 1/2" Hevi-shot and steel loads and has never failed me.
As far as I am concerned the 870 is out dated and I prefer the better features of the Nova (including the Rust Free polymer).
