I never liked Savage rifles until I shot one a few years back and I was really impressed. I never considered a Savage before because I did not like the looks...mainly the barrel nut. I found a model 16 in 270 wsm with the accu-trigger this winter that I picked for a decent price. After mounting the bases, rings and a scope I think the barrel nut is hardly noticeable. So far the accuracy has been around 1", most of the time just a tad better. I'm sure the rifle is capable of better groups(once a sweet load has been found) but the shooter may not be;). My only complaint is the synthetic stock. It is a little weak and the mold lines are visible....but the gun is plenty accurate for hunting! I think you will be impressed with the Savage.

I have a 12vss with the choate stock, pillar bedding and custom trigger. I strapped a Swift 8-32 telescope on it. It's a load to carry, but shoots the lights out. Sub MOA with el-cheapo factory hollow points. It shoots rings around my colleagues' high-end varmint rigs.

I actually don't like to go to the range with them, b/c I think it really bothers 'em that I only spent half the dough and got twice the machine. I'm a terrible shot, too, but this thing has such a crispy trigger that you just can't miss.

I have a savage 110 in .243 and it shoots better than I can hold.
I would not hesitate to buy another.

I have a model 10 le2 tac in .308 and love it almost as much as my remington 700!! The feature I like the most about the Savage is the Accu trigger. Nothing wrong with a Savage accurate, reliable, and easy on the wallet!!

I've owned Winchester, Remington, Ruger, Browning, Weatherby and Savage.
Hands down, without question that damn Savage willl outshoot all of em out of the box. I have spent extra money the others just trying to match the accuracy of my lil savage 110.

A local gun dealer has the Savage .17HMR, i believe it's model number is 93R17 - heavy barrel, for $159. I'm thinking that is a VERY good price. Anyone have a the Savage .17 HMR? how's it shoot?
