Kimber Pistol's

Doese anyone here shoot Kimber pistols? If so how do you like it and what one do you have? Doese anyone know if they are double or single action? Or doese it depend on their model?

All of the Kimber pistols are 1911-A1 clones, and all are single action. They are a bit spendy, but a very nice pistol. I've shat a couple and really like them, but I just can't bring myself to spend $750-1100 on one. For that kind of money I can get a new rifle and a scope to go with it, and that's usually what happens. I'm not a huge pistol fan. I like them for what they are, but when I go to the range it's my rifles that get packed first.

I've got an older Gold Match that I used to shoot. I have a real like/hate relationship with Kimber. I had a very difficult time finding a reload that would make this GM run right, it was a 3-4 year exercise. I'd try something with the loads, get the gun out - get PO'd (again) and put it away and switch to one of my Colts (which always ran fine on these reloads). By the time I found a combination that worked I'd bought a Les Baer - which has been 100% reliable out of the box and so the Kimber sits in the safe.
Look around on www.1911forum.com for Kimber info - there is lots there, both good and bad.

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP in 45 acp. I like the looks and accuracy of this handgun, but perfer the H&K compact in the same caliber. The H&K fits my hand better than the CDP. Both are quality handgun, this is just my preference.

I have a series one Kimber CDP full size. Great pistol, but I normally carry the Glock that I carry at work.

IMHO, Kimber's are top of the line. Saying a Kimber is just a 1911 clone is like saying a Porsche is a VW clone. I've shot 1911's my whole military career and a Kimber is a whole new ball game. You might have to do a little work to find a good load, but there's no comparing the two. Just my $.02.

They are a fine pistol but to me they are not worth the money. I can doctor a colt ar springfiel and end up with a gun of equal quality and still save money. For those who have the money and don't want to roll their own, they are fine.

I've been thinking about buying a kimber as well. I love the .22 cal. conversion option. Do other 1911 manufacturers offer this? You can't beat they'r looks either.

The Kimber conversion kit is simply a unit made by a company known as Ciener. Kimber makes them under license. They should fit most 1911s.

PSE, there is nothing wrong with a Glock. Very reliable and accurate, but for the money I spend when purchasing a firearm, it must also look good. The Glock is about as ugley as they get.

Two totally different beasts with different trains of thought for either. As I was saying in another post, if I want to shoot a gun with all the bells and whistles and safeties and good target gun, I shoot a kimber, if I want to carry a gun that is a no nonsense grab and shoot I like my glock. If I want something beside my bed at night, I have a 357 wheel gun or 870 shotgun. If I want to hunt deer or boar, I use my 44 mag. Four different situations, four different tools used.

They have nothing on a Hi-Point, Glocks are downright sexy compared to them.[8D]

I don't know. One of my friends has a Hi-Point, and at first I didn't think it was quite as ugly as a Glock. Of course, your opinion changes a little after you shoot it. More Failure to Feeds and Failure to Fires than you can count. And the bullets tumble, so you can't hit the broadside of a barn. Its a nice sized carry gun, but about the only way you could defend yourself is if you hit the perp on the head with it. It's almost a bad deal, and he got it for free. Shoot it for a while, and it will become the ugliest gun you've ever seen.
