Savage 340C rifle
 

My buddy just picked up a gun at an auction the other day. He called me up asking me about some info on this gun, but I don't know anything about it. It's a Savage 340C rifle: bolt action: 30-30. Anybody have any experience or know anything about this gun. He's going to be using it for deer-hunting. I like to research a gun before I buy it, but he didn't have any time to do that, since it was an auction. Thanks

My hunting buddy uses a 340c in .222. It is one of the most accurate guns I have seen. They seem to be good guns..if the price is right its is definitely worth getting.

They're kinda weird-looking rifles, but they were apparently pretty popular, since they were made in various versions and configurations for quite a while.

The .30-30 models typically sell for about $150 in good condition, I think. The .222s sell for significantly more.

I've got one that was my Dad's. He bought it in 1946 when he got out of the navy. It's the only deer rifle he ever owned. I've shot a few whitetails with it. I like to carry it for sentimental reasons. It's a very accurate rifle - I get MOA groups from it with 150 gr Remington Core-Loct.

If it is in good condition, it should be a pefectly serviceable rifle for deer hunting. Enjoy.

Hi guys this is my first post of this site, but I'm the one that my buddy is talking about. I have got two Savage's both are 340's one is a C which is 30-30, and the other is B which is 222. I paid $185 for the 30-30, with a scope and a hard case, and the 222 was $85, but it has a bad stock. The stock is held together with wire, but it shoots, which is good. I would like to get a new stock for it, but it is hard to find things on them becuase Savage will not supply information on guns before 1991. I have found some thing on them, but I would like to know more about them then, like break down manuals, or where to go to find more things on them, things like that. If no wood is missing, position some padded clamps so as to put everything back where it belongs, do this after the action is removed,
slack the clamps off just a very little, and put thin CA [crazy glue] glue in all the cracks and immediately retighten the clamps, leave overnight and all should be well.
