RE: 1911 .45 to .22 kit.
The only one I was half way familiar with was the original one by Colt.I believe to was called the Colt 22 ACE.Last one I saw was going for big bucks.I really don't know how they performed. For what they were asking for the Colt Ace conversion, you could buy a new gun in 22 caliber. It was in the upper hundreds.I personally don't think they were real efficient. Don't remember many of them being sold when they were available. The GS I worked for at one time was a Colt Distr,I remember some of them coming in.Don't know if we sold them or went to another dealer.I wouldn't be interested in one myself.

The more popular ones are the Ciener conversions. I've never used one myself. I know that Kimber makes one of these under license from Ciener, they reviewed it in Rifleman several monts ago and looked pretty good. I would think that if Kimber makes a copy of it, its a pretty good endorsement of the product in itself.

Are you looking for a plinker? or do you want some accuracy? The Marvel conversion is shot quite a bit in competition, it's very good. I personally think they have terrible customer service, but they make the most accurate conversion you can use. Read all about them here http://www.marvelprecision.com/

I own a Marvel conversion unit and is a real shooter.
The .77 group at 50 yards that came with the unit was exceeded by a .70 a few weeks after I received it. (that is from a benchrest of course) A friend of mine has the Kimber unit and is really good looking but not nearly as accurate as the Marvel. |
