In the pistol I think that the 7-08 would be closer to its MAX(in a full length barrel) potential because of its shorter case, where the 25-06 has a longer case and would need more barrel to max out. I'd say the opposite and choose the 25-06 in a rifle though.

7m08 would be the way to for all the reasons that you have read but I think one of the best benefits would be more variety in bullet weights especially if you are reloading
