The shop i work at has had nothing but trouble with these as well.

I'd buy a savage over the 710 anyday.

You can have my share of one. I wouldn't own one on a bet.Everyone I've looked at was 100% garbage.Savage makes a much better rifle for about the same price.

While I agree with some of what people are saying....not all. True, the rifle is not one of those rifles that are going to make all your buddies ohh and ahh over it when you get it out of the gun case but I didn`t buy it to impress anyone. I could care less what they look like. I do however care how they shoot. And the one I have had does shoot fine. It will group fine and have killed many deer with it. The bolt sticks some, but again, who cares. I have yet to have that part stop me from taking a deer. You can ask, but I bet those deer didn`t care what it looked like. It is a cheap gun, but for what you pay, it is really a pretty good gun and will more than do the job that I need it to.

I have been researching this rifle for several months now and I have found there to be one truth to most of the reviews. The people that speak out the loudest against this gun are typically the Sako drooling rifle snobs that think that if it costs less than $1000 it's not a usable piece of merchandise. I have been hunting since my father first handed me a gun, but I do not claim to be a rifle expert. I DO know that no animal ever looked at a rifle and dropped dead because it was pretty. Wood is not necessarily the best material to take out and get wet on a regular basis. And if you are putting enough rounds through a rifle to WEAR OUT the barrel, then by all means spend the money on something you can change the barrel. Those of us with better things to spend thousands of dollars on will continue to look at products like the Remington 710, and the Savage, and the Rem. 700 ADL...

My point is; picking something up once or twice does not make you an expert. I'm sure the first guy to pick up a bolt action rifle thought it was crap too, but that's what we use today. Am I saying the 710 is the wave of the future... no. Is it possible that some of the technology in it will become standard... yes. So go get your ungodly expensive rifle and go pump another couple hundred rounds off to make yourself feel better about being you. Meanwhile, leave your closed-minded uneducated opinions in your head.

dothework, My we are touchy aren't we?I'm glad you are happy with your Remington 710.I know not everybody can afford Sako's Brownings and other of the higher priced rifles.Then to get a good and decent rifle you don't have to.There are other models on the lower end with better quality then the Rem 710. Savage for one makes a much better rifle for about the same price. For not to much more money a Remington 700 ADL could be bought and it's a much better made rifle.The price doesn't make it better,but the quality does.IMHO the Remington 710 lacks the quality.For a person who only shoots a few rounds a year the 710 is fine. No I'm not a Sako Drooling snob,but I know quality when I see it.I've looked several times at the 710 and still haven't found any.I guess I let my closed minded un-educated opinions slip my head.Sorry if I've offended you.

To look at it, operate the bolt and the general feel of the 710 is enough for me to form my opinion. I'm glad your satisfied with yours.I hope you get many years of service out of it.

The remington 710 ! i have held them ,looked them over more than i want to , and sold one !not mine cause i wouldnt spend the money for one.
I am a remington man and some know i will defend my 700's and 7's and put them up against any hunting rifle on the range. but yes the 710 is a low price economy rifle. the 700 adl syn was supposed to be that. I felt that remington was really lacking in the quality area on the 700 adl. and well the bdl's are not up to quality either.
But the 710 is a economy cheap rifle! hands down! it won't be what the 700's i have are... heirlooms. my kids and maybe grandkids will be hunting with mine. but the poor 710 will no longer be in production and parts ,that will surely be needed , won't be available! Like the 742 which certain parts are getting hard to find it will be just remingtons disposable gun!
But then again remington did the same thing with the 788,600 and 660. did i forget one?or two? ( and yes they are bringing back a 600 in 350 but they added the thing most didnt like the vent rib!we will see how well they do. the thing going for it is a model 7 reciever)
cheaper is not always better. you get what you pay for.
And i am not a sako man!i am not a japanese browning man!And i can't seem to become a big old barrel nutted savage man!
I could be a ruger or winchester dude. but i'll keep my 700's,old ones preferably, cause remington keeping in line with there poor quality 710 has added a Klintoon key to there guns.
I am glad somebody is supporting those poor remington workers cause i am not until they go back to QUALITY!

Soark, Your reply was so nice you almost brought tears to my eyes.LOL...My computer almost broke when you said you could be a Ruger or Winchester dude.I knew there was hope for you .Ruger would be glad to oblige you.In all seriousness. Remington does make some fine BA's with their 700 & Model Seven. The quality control not only at Remington,but most gun companies has gone down over the last several years. They all want to cut corners.I have a Remington 700 ADL(270) which was bought strictly for hunting about 7 years ago. It has served me well so far.It's quality and/or workmanship is very good.I'm sure parts will always be available,for the 710 probably not. I don't see this model 710 being around long and Remington keeping parts in inventory is doubtful.Like you mentioned the 742's parts are getting hard to find. This was a very popular rifle back then and can't hardly find parts for it today.The 710 is definately a throw away rifle.If it's cared for it will probably give good service for awhile. Once something goes wrong the fun will begin trying to find parts for it.Sure a good Smith could make replacement parts for it, that would cost more then buying a new rifle.The Remington 710 is the Yugo of the gun world.
