RE: remington model 710
I bought two of these models a few months ago in .270 and my sons and I have put alot of rounds through these guns of late.
Right out of the box, they shot a 1" group at 100 yards, and are now driving tacks.
They have performed flawlessly, shoot straight, feel solid and are nowhere near "garbage". My BDL should shoot this good and be this reliable, and it's not.
You do not have to spend $700.00 anymore to get a good deer rifle, unless you like the way it "looks".

Two friends bought 710's last year (.270 & 30-06) One guy polished had to tool marks off his bolt, other guy didn't care. Both were stainless models, after 7-8 mos. both barrels developed light stains above the forestock (thumb sweat?) with good care. The .270 owner is keeping his, but looking for another. The 30-06 wants a Tikka. Overall, so-so reviews.

The Remington 710 is fantastic! I just got it in .270 caliber and it is a solid tack driver!!! I usually hunt with a Remington LTR .308 but I wanted a lighter rifle for this season and stick to the tactical application with my LTR. I am shooting Winchester Silver Tip/Ballistic Tip 130gr. bullets.
The 710 consistently shot 1" groups at 100yds right out of the box at the range. If I could tune this rifle I would give the bolt action a little less resistance but heck it loosens up folks and feels like a solid seat of bullet in chamber. The awesome trigger feels nice and crisp and the scope is fine for my field expeditions. Yes a Leupold would be nice but show me $400 extra and I will show you this rifle with a nice Leupold on it. Point is, this rifle is meant to be a less expensive work horse and it does it well. VERY WELL.

I always said I have never seen an uglier gun than a savage ,then remington made a liar out of me . LOL I did try one this week and it will shoot very well ,and yes like everyone else we did take it out of the box whatever that means . It wasn't one inch groups ,but pretty close .

I'm proud to have a Remington 710 in .30-06. It shoots just as good as any expensive rifle. I dont hunt to often, but I know that the 710 is a great gun. Its not a "show-off" type rifle, but its solid and does what it promises to do. I believe that the stock is garunteed not to crack.

Apparently none of the satisfied customers have experienced the quick detach bolt feature... rack bolt to chamber round and you have a rifle in one hand and bolt in the other--that's with the bolt lock locked. Remington has had at least three recalls on this rifle. To put it mildly it is scrap. My shop has sent all of the one's we purchased back to Remington; we will not sell what we consider unsafe firearms. If this isn't happening the first few times it will; the nylon bushing will wear or the pot metal lock/spring will let go.
Any Savage, 110, 111, or 116 package is a better value and a better shooting rifle. They are built for shooting; not the guy that shoots his one box a year.
The reason the Remington's sell is they are cheaply priced and that is what they are;;cheap. Savage's rifles are $20-30 more and are far better any day or night.
