Best 30-06 for the money.
What is the best 30-06 you can buy without spending alot of money? I will be buying a new gun soon and I am looking at 30-06 caliber but I do not want to spend to much money. What gun should I buy.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
IMO, a Remington synthetic-stocked 700 ADL. They're decent rifles that aren't that expensive. I had one and it was a nice shooter. Savages are also said to be good and inexpensive, but I have no experience with Savage rifles.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
I'd have to go with a savage combo.
|
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
For a lower priced 30-06 go with a Savage. The Remington 700 ADL is another good buy. Stay away from the Remington 710.They are higher priced but the Ruger M-77 is a great rifle.
Ruger Redhawk |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
another vote for the 700 adl. very accurate.savage may have a fine rifle i just don't have any experience with them.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
ruger 77

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
NEF handi rifle
Savage Rem 700 Weatherby vangaurd or Howa 1500 (basicly same gun) Except for the NEF they are all around the same price $ 350 - $ 400 roughly speaking |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Do you need or want stainless steel? How heavy? What length barrel do you want? Other features that you want? We'll help you narrow it down, give us more to go on.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
These are rifles that sale for under $400. I would look to the Weatherby vangurd, Savage, & Remington ADL synthetic. Also, don't rule out looking in local gun shops or gun shows that carry used rifles. Often times a good rifle with a quality scope can be bought for considerably less than buying a new rifle alone. Such as, I purchaed a Remington 700 BDL 30-06 for a friend at a recent gun show. The rifle with a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X40 went for $550. The gun was a few years old a looked like new with only one small scratch on the stock forend about 3/4" long. The gun alone sales for more than the combo if bought new. At the range the gun shot 1-3/8" groups with core-lokts.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
a savage model 110 isnt too much, and neither is the remington 700. go down to your gun store and see what they have, you might find something youlike there for a tad lower than what you might pay new

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
I see you are from Atikokan. I used to hunt alot around Ignace. Truly great country. As for your rifle, check out the Tikka T3 stainless/synthetic. It is nice and light, will outshoot just about any thing else short of the big dollar rifles and even will outshoot most of them. It also has a removable clip. They retail for around $800.00 CDN. Welcome to the board!

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Savage 110 in 3006, bought mine 20 years ago and still enjoy it I have more expensive
guns but I always take this one deer hunting. |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
My vote would be a Savage model 16f stainless I bought one in .300 wsm last yr.........Paid about $675 with a Leupold VXII scope and rings. Couldn't ask for a more accurate rifle!!!
..........I did have the trigger worked on. But it shot great b-4 and even better after.Glob! |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
NEF handi rifle $192.00 and you can order different barrels in different calibers.
|
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Savage has started selling synthetic-stocked 110's under the Stevens name for about $250. These rifles don't have the Accu-Trigger but are 110's in every other respect. I don't see how you can go wrong for that kind of money.
Or, look for a good used Savage. I've seen rifle/scope combos selling in pawn shops for under $250, and most have been 30-06's. If I weren't left-handed, I'd probably have a few of them myself. |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
NEF handi rifle Savage Rem 700 Weatherby vangaurd or Howa 1500 (basicly same gun) Hopefully this list is not in the order of preference..Handi Rifle while a good value( I own exactly 1 of them) cannot compare to the 3 listed below. |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Another vote for the Tikka T3 - they leave the factory with a 1 inch grouping at 100 yards guarantee.
|
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Before I bought the Savage I was looking for a Tikka. They seem to be great guns, but are nearly impossible to get as of late. I tried for 3 months before giving up.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
I'd have to go with remington. The new 700 SPS is offered in stainless or blued and retails less than the bdl and most other rifle out there except probably a new england or a savage. Just a note, remington discontinued the 700 adl and replaced it with the 700 sps. good looking gun, affordable, remington, what could be better?

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
I bought a Mossberg 100ATR bolt action 4 round top load magazine and has a semi bull barrel at Walmart $244.00 This this little puppy is a tack driver full floated barrel but does not come with sites but does come with scope mounts. Light and easy to carry all metal is parkerized except bolt and comes in synthetic stock. Not much to look at one one accurate shooter and Mossberg customer service Is #1. Jimmy
P.S. You can get it in .270 or 30.06 |

Another vote for the Tikka T3 - they leave the factory with a 1 inch grouping at 100 yards guarantee. |

What does "Don't want to spend to much money" mean? How much is too much?

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
If you want a decently-made .30-06 rifle for less than $400.00, I suggest the Savage. Maybe not the prettiest rifles made, but they tend to be very accurate, are designed to be safe and (if you get one with the Accu-Trigger), have one of the best, if not THE best factory triggers around.
I have an older Savage Model 110E .30-06 I bought from a friend. Very accurate, normally between 0.75"-1.0" @ 100 yards. Plus, I like their tang-mounted safety. I REALLY like the tang-mounted safety on my Ruger M77R, but they changed the safety when they went with the MKII. Only God knows why! Brian |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Oh, come on Oldelk, you know its true. If anyone has ever sent a rifle in because of Low accuracy, you know how much of a ordeal it is. Alot of people don't know but Remington even has a specification. If you call them and tell em you 700 is getting 3" groups with a 300RUM, you get the classic answer, don't sound right, send it in and well take a look at it. They don't specify what the accuracy is. Well, after they played with it for 2 months, you get it back with no change. About the third time sending it back you realize its a waste of your shipping dollars and something has got to give. I seen a 338win mag sent back three times to the custom shop and they ended up ruining the gun believe it or not, by lapping the rifling out in the middle. I was shocked. It wasn't mine thank goodness. Same with Weatherby. I know a few people who took them up on that 1.5" warranty. They ended up selling in the end.
They count on you not sending it back. |
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Gist of the Post was best 30-06 for the money. If the Tikka is the best 30-06 out there for the money I will give up rifle hunting and get a longbow
|
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
Howa. great price, nice looking, smooth action, and accurate right out of the box.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
you cant' go wrong with a savage package gun. alot of gun for a little $$ and they have the new accutrigger which is nice. Very accruate as well. i just bought one and like it better then my winchester (most of the time)
|
RE: Best 30-06 for the money.
If your looking for a bolt action my first choice would be a ruger77 then a remington 700 around $450 the single shot nef handi rifle is a fine rifle and can be had at wal-mart $187 And if your looking for a semi auto you cant beat the browning BAR but the remington 742 is used by a couple of guys in my club with never a problem.

RE: Best 30-06 for the money.

Best .30-06 for the money
Savage hands down I have a Savage 110 in .270. It shoots far better than my old Ruger M77 MkII .30-06 and slightly better than my Remington 700. If I were needing an inexpensive rifle I'd go w/ a Savage & top it off w/ an Aetec 2.8-10X44. Cost is about $450.00. It will be accurate, dependable & last you a lifetime. |
