I like a .223. Ammo is cheap, easy to find, and relativley accurate. A good bullet, like the Hornady V-Max, will drop them dead without a lot of pelt damage.

I personally like the 243 with 55gr. bullets. I took a yote at 300 meters a few weeks ago. I like the trajectory of the bullet even in more than a light breeze. (You get a lot of wind in the Texas/North Mexico flats this time of the year, that why I prefer the 243).

223 is cheap, but I feel better with a little heavier round.

Have fun!

Hello Yotes101,
I would pick .243, but it is my opinion!
.243/55gr----Yotes
.243/100gr---Head or Ear shots on Deer
6.5mm Swed 140 gr---shoulder shots
Remember my opinion!!!!!

KEEP ON ROOTING!!!!

If wind is not a big factor, I'd go with the .223. If so, the heavier 243 is the better choice. Dan, the Swift is a great round, but its very hard on barrels.

So is a .22-250 and .223wssm but nobody ever says anything about them. It got its bad rap from the 40s when they didnt have the metals that we have now .

"nobody ever says anything bad about them"? Actually, I've read several posts here and elsewhere about the 22-250 being a barrel burner. I"ll agree that the metals of yesteryear were not what they are today, but can speak from experience that even todays metals are not always up to the challenge when it comes to the heat of the 22-250. As for the wssm's, I don't have any personal experience with them, but have read several articles and posts of them being a barrel smoker too. I'm not trying to get your shorts in a wad, this is just my .02.

now play nice boys... the swift with it's normal loading of 45-50 grain bullets loaded up over 4K fps will eat up a barrel a lot quicker than a 22-250 loaded to 3600fps with a 55gr bullet... load the 22-250 up to 4000fps and you'll eat up a barrel quick, load a swift down to 3600 with a 55 and have a long term easy shooting barrel... it's all in what you do with them...

I am not upset at all ,its just that the 4000 fps barrier once broken by any .22 cal will eat the barrel up .( that is flat smokin) . I try to push my swift at about 3800 with 50 gr. v-max , it seems to fit real well.
