AR 15
Thinking of buying an AR 15 style rifle.
Would appreciate any ideas as to what are the best on the market at this time. Thanks for any and all help |
RE: AR 15
IMO some of the best are Bushmaster ,Rockriver and Armalite
There other good makers ,I own a Rockriver ,freinds have the other 2. I will not recomend Colt ,I had too many problems before I sold it |
RE: AR 15
I prefer the Bushmaster's, many, many match shooters use them with great success. I own several with no problems, they are excellent quality. You will overpay for a Colt just for the name, not worth it.

RE: AR 15
Thanks, I was leaning toward a Bushmaster.
The colt stuff never came into play. I have never been impressed with them. All name and no quality. |
RE: AR 15
Bushmaster have built quite a name for themselves but don't count out the RRA and Armalite, they are both quality rifles that you may get a little better deal on price wise, just make sure to compare apples to apples, try to match the same models up against one another. It wouldn't be fair to compare a carbine type RRA to the Bushmaster Varminter in price, different type rifles. I think if you go with any of the three listed you will be happy with your choice. Enjoy the new rifle whatever the make and model.

RE: AR 15
I own or have owned pre-9/94 Colts, post-9/94 Colts, and post-9/94 Bushmaster AR’s and I’d have to vote for the Bushmaster. IMO the pre-9/94 Colts are the nicest AR’s made (aside from the proprietary-sized “PC” parts), too bad they went downhill after the 1994 ban. The late 90’s Colt I had was nice but not as nicely finished nor smooth as my Colt Sporter. It just felt more cheaply made. My Bushmasters aren’t as nice as my Colt Sporter either, but the Bushmasters are smooth enough, extremely rugged and well-built, and use standard-sized parts. Plus, Bushmaster is an excellent company to deal with. I know a lot of people have grown to love the RRA rifles, but of all the ones I’ve held and/or fired, there’s just something missing from a RRA AR that I can’t entirely explain. They just don’t seem to be a Bushmaster or older Colt. They just feel “clunky.” Plus, RRA had an issue a few years ago with out-of-spec parts that they tried to deny. That left a bad taste in my mouth too.
In your shoes, I would spend the money on a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle and call it a day. You’ll have probably the best AR-15 made today. |
RE: AR 15
I like Rock River Arms. I have a RRA "AR-15 A2 Tasc Rifle". I love it. My friend has a RRA "Varmint Rifle" w/ a 24 inch barrel and the EOP scope mount and it shoots 3/8 inch groups at 100 yards.
