.260 Rem vs 7mm-08
I am looking for a low recoil short action (non-magnum!) deer rifle that I wouldn't feel bad shooting at a Mule deer from 250+/- yards. These two are interesting.
Any thoughts? P.S. Why hasn't anyone put a .277 bullet in that .308 case? |
RE: .260 Rem vs 7mm-08
If you handload you can work up a light load for a .270 and that might fit your needs.

RE: .260 Rem vs 7mm-08
.277" bullet in 308Win. case? Probably hasn't been done (as a factory round) because they know it can't compete with the 270Win. Until very recently the only other 270 cartridge was the 270 Weatherby Mag. Then too, we've had the 7mm-08 with us now for
over/about 25yrs. ".....a low recoil short action (non-magnum!) deer rifle that I wouldn't feel bad shooting at a Mule deer from 250+/- yards. ....." The 260 Rem. and the 7mm-08 will both do the job on mule deer. My personal pick however, is the 308Win. I used one in Wyoming for near 7yrs., and it always did an excellent job. But, as noted, the 260 or 7mm-08, either one will serve you well for mule deer. |

i prefer the 7mm-08 if nothing for bullet selection. but i have not read anything bad about the 260

7mm-08 is my opinion. You can get ammo for it at wal-mart. the 260 may be a little harder to find.

RE: .260 Rem vs 7mm-08
7mm08 is becoming one of the favorite deer loads in the south
