.260 Rem vs 7mm-08

I am looking for a low recoil short action (non-magnum!) deer rifle that I wouldn't feel bad shooting at a Mule deer from 250+/- yards. These two are interesting.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Why hasn't anyone put a .277 bullet in that .308 case?

If you handload you can work up a light load for a .270 and that might fit your needs.

.277" bullet in 308Win. case? Probably hasn't been done (as a factory round) because they know it can't compete with the 270Win. Until very recently the only other 270 cartridge was the 270 Weatherby Mag. Then too, we've had the 7mm-08 with us now for
over/about 25yrs.

The 260 Rem. and the 7mm-08 will both do the job on mule deer. My personal pick however, is the 308Win. I used one in Wyoming for near 7yrs., and it always did an
excellent job. But, as noted, the 260 or 7mm-08, either one will serve you well for mule deer.

7mm-08 is my opinion. You can get ammo for it at wal-mart. the 260 may be a little harder to find.

I like the 7mm-08 for deer, but I wish there were more factory loads for it stead of 140 gr.I would like to see a 160 gr bullet and a 120 gr nosler.Anyone with me on this.

Yep, count me in. A good 160gr. load, maybe Nosler Partition or Trophy Bonded, would
make the 7mm-08 a good/better elk/moose cartridge. 120gr. HP or 115gr. HP loads
would help too, for varmint work.

7mm08 is becoming one of the favorite deer loads in the south

Both of these cartridges will work fine for deer at that range.I use the 260 with 129gr hornady sp .
