In cabelas some of the best deals on ammunition are that of WOLF ammunition (out of russia). Does anybody know the quality of this ammunition? Thanks.

RE: WOLF ammunition
I shoot a lot of Wolf ammo the primers are harder than most brands , so if you have light primer hits you will have rounds not going off once in a while. So no light hamer springs!
Most people that have problems with it have light primer hits. I have shot several thousand rnds each of 762 X 39 , 223 and 9mm. I will not call it match grade but it's not junk. Great plinking ammo. Just so you know they use steel cases |
RE: WOLF ammunition
is there anything wrong with steel cases?

RE: WOLF ammunition
Shot about 50 rounds through my XD9 without a problem. Shot a couple hundred through my SKS without a problem. Some people believe the steel cases are hard on the extractor on semi-autos. You'll also find many people that say that Wolf ammo is dirtier than ammo like WWB or UMC.
Like anything else, try it and see how your gun likes it. Might want to check Ammoman.com or Ammunitionstore.com for pricing. Both of these places have good reputations. |
RE: WOLF ammunition
my 9mm hi power doesnt like it at all it locks it up. jams so i stay away from it.

RE: WOLF ammunition
Check to see if you are shooting sub-sonic rounds out of your HI Power. It may like hotter loads to function well. Mine didn't like low power loads either without changing the spring. I don't know what the Wolf 9mm ammo is for sure.

RE: WOLF ammunition
paul i could put a round in the chamber and i could not open cycle the chamber at all i hade to take it to a smith to get the round out of the gun. the smith said the ammo was junk and to though it away. so i give it to a freind that said he shot wolf ammo all the time because it was so cheap. so like i said erlier i just stay away from wolf ammo.

RE: WOLF ammunition
oh by the way any and every other brand ammo i used though my hi power worked perfectly.

RE: WOLF ammunition
wow that sucks, that wouldn't be the spring then I gues. I though it was failing to cycle a round, like the slide would only come part way back and not strip another round from the clip, or jam (stove pipe). It sounds like the cases on that ammo were too thick or had corosion on them or something. Never had that problem with a pistol before.
I really miss my Hi Power though[>:]. Never sell that gun, take my advice on it. You will regret in the end. Paul |
RE: WOLF ammunition
i have put nearly 500 rnds through my bushmaster, ( you can get 500 rnds of wolf ammo for around $65) and have never had one jam. Of course this is my results, im sure some of the other guys may have, but for the money, and what i use it for (slingin lead at the range) if you did have 1 or 2 jams at the range no big deal. :)
