Here in Dayton Ohio Walmart had a Remington .270 combo on clearance for around 260.00 and a couple Winchesters m70 Super Shadows in 7mm wsm for 286.00 so I got the 7mm a week ago and went to KY. and shot a buck Saturday so check WALY WORLD.

Thanks for all the advice so far. Today, I found a Ruger 77 MK II at a local sporting goods store for $449. I liked it more than the Remington 700 I compared it with, but thought I'd wait for your thoughts out there. Any feelings about this rifle? Thanks a lot, Tom

It's a matter of personal preference, and what you want to spend. I recently picked up a Tikka T3 Synthetic/Stainless for a little over $500 and I love it. It shoots extremely well, is really light, and looks pretty slick too.

If the rifle fits you, you like it, and you think it's a good price, buy it.
You can always find someone who'll say, "Man you should've bought a [fill in the blank]," but it's your money, and your decision.
What I always say to myself is, "Self, if it doesn't work out, you can always sell it."
[Self then answers, "Yeah, that's gonna happen." But I don't pay any attention to that part.]

Two sons and I bought three 270's. First was a Ruger M77. Second was Remington 700. Since we had two different ones, we decided to make the third different and picked Winchester 70. All are stainless with black plastic stock. We trade 'em back and forth and nobody has a preference. They are all good and shoot the same. If one shoots better then the rifle is better than we can shoot. We like the three position safety best. So since Ruger was the least expensive I'd say you done yourself good.
