RE: Best scope: less than ~$60
termiflyer,
I would recommend a cheap red-dot, either a Bushnell or BSA can be had for $35-55. I would then suggest a B-Square mount, and Burris Signature Zee rings. Of course the mount ($45) and the rings ($30) will cost more than the scope, but you won't need to worry about rattles or "loosening" on your shotgun. The B-square also comes with rings, so you could save some dough by skipping the higher quality Burris rings. Can get them all at Natchez shooting supply... |
RE: Best scope: less than ~$60
Properly installed, Weaver bases and mounts are as good as any other brand or type. I have used dozens of all of them. Bushnell would be the way to go for a cheaper scope. I like the trophy models at about 100 dollars but I have had no problems with banners either. I have not tried the Sportsman models but if you find a fixed power one with enough eye relief, it should hold up well. I don't care for real cheap variable scopes.

RE: Best scope: less than ~$60
Well, I ended up finding a refurbished Bushnell Trophy (1.75-4) on Ebay for $69. I also bought a $40 B-Square saddle mount w/ 1" rings. All-in-all a little more than I originally planned, but the scope is awesome and i'm very pleased.
My first group was a foot low and a foot right at 50 yards. 96 clicks in each direction and wham, right in the middle. Thanks for the advice! |

96 clicks, wow. Anyhow, good hunting.
