RE: kimber montana
The one I looked at was very nice..considering the action and the stock your getting it is well worth the money. Look at it this way it is 200-300 less then a Remington Custom Shop KS and better made, the stock for sure is better then anything a KS will have on it. I have owned 3 KS's and can tell you they are severely overpriced. Only bad I see is lightweight, when I get even older I would like one but for now will trudge around with a heavier rifle because they hold steadier after climbing up and down hills.

I was looking closely at them a few months ago. Seemed very nice although I didn't care for the blind magazine. Also, the rifle seemed too short / small for my liking. They were selling like hot cakes at this particular gun shop I visited. I saw three go out the last day I went there (@ about a grand each!!!).

RE: kimber montana
I have the 8400 Classic, love it. Well worth the money and they will shoot every bit as good as they look. Good point though on the blind mag on the Montana, not sure if it is really worth the little weight you save to not have it.

I like the blind magazine on my 8400. That much less weight to lug around.

RE: kimber montana
Theoretically a blind magazine is not only lighter but it makes the action that much stronger (less torque shifting when firing) which supposedly yields better accuracy. All that is increased when you add it too a non moisture absorbing stock as featured on the Montana.
That bein said, I guess because I grew up on an ol 30/06 ADL I dont mind the blind magazines. I absolutely LOVE the Montana. I burned one up with Kimbers guys lastyear in WY (308) and will no doubt add a 270WSM Montana too the safe before long. The guns are VERY light, and the kevlar/carbon fibre stock is something worth paying for. The gun should outlast as many barrels as you dare shoot out! Good luck, RA |
RE: kimber montana
Would like one myself in 300 wsm. How's the recoil with these rifles.
