RE: Howa or Tikka

They are still one action length ...they are modifying magazines for shorter or longer cartridges..

i haven't had any experience with the tikka but do have a howa. mine is in 300 win mag and will shoot 180grain winchester blue box factory ammo into less than 1" at 100 yards. it will also put my handloaded 165g nosler partitions and 180g swift sciroccos into less than an inch.

RE: Howa or Tikka

I just bought a Tikka in 7mm Rem Mag and took it to the range a couple of weeks ago. It feels very good, recoil is not that bad, trigger is smooth, and accuracy is very good.
I was shooting the new Accubond bullet by Winchester in 160 grain.
I am very impressed with the gun, and at the price it is a steal.

Howa hands down, that tikka is nice but not really any better then a remington 710.

RE: Howa or Tikka

I would not say as bad as a 710. The Tikka's are using one action length, however they use different length bolt stops for the various cartridge lengths, so you still only stroke it for the actual length of your cartridge of choice. I don't know from experience, but I have heard that the 710s have a wierd barrel/reciever hookup, whereas the Tikka's have the tradional/desired barrel attachment system. I have two Tikka's, and soon will have a third, so I am somewhat biased, but they do shoot extremely well. My 308 shoots sub MOA with 180 partitions, and my 22-250 shoots sub-sub-sub MOA with 55 Vmaxs.

I think you should buy the rifle that fits your frame/stature the best, and go out and enjoy it!!

RE: Howa or Tikka

Ohhhh, c'mon, there is nothing that comes closer to a 710 and certainly not a Tikka rifle.

Probably the 710 is the worst rifle ever made. (I was very dissapointed with Remington for that matter) dont' get me wrong here, I do own remington's and I love them, but the 710 is a different thing.

Tikka is not Sako but it is a very good rifle anyway, better than many American and European rifles.

Your kidding right? Not crazy about the plastic features on a Tikka but its like comparing Martha Stewart to Cindy Margolis at a bikini competition. I had the chance to look at another 710 yesterday at my local Walmart..I had time to burn so I wasted it looking at it to see if any noticeable improvements have been done to it since I first looked at one a year or so back. Sorry to say it looks exactly the same. I believe the price was 349 dollars with a scope and 700 ADLs were 389. I believe I would save up the extra forty bucks and spring for the ADL and buy my own decent scope. Just MHO

That's like someone saying their 1972 Ford Pinto is just as good as a 2005 Rolls Royce! [8D]

The Howa is a good gun, but I much prefer the Tikkas. I think they are a little more refined and probably more accurate on average. The 710 is junk.
