RE: remington 710

These guns, (And I use the term gun loosely) are built for the weekend warrior who will take that rifle out and shoot a deer every now and then. For the hunter on budget, it can be a good choice. They do shoot well. But that is it for good stuff on this gun. They are quickly assembled, and the quality is not good. The stock is plastic. The one piece moulded trigger gaurd is part of the stock and is weak. The barrel is press fitted and glued into place, the bolt release is cheesy, and the whole thing feels like a club. Now that they are available in magnum calibers, with magnum pressures, I'm sure the problems and recalls will continue. This rifle has had several recalls. You may wan't to consider one of the savage combos. I feel they are built alot better. But, if you are a die-hard remington fan, who will use his (or her) gun only once or twice a year, than you may be happy with the 710. After all, if Remington wanted you to have a higher quality rifle, they would just build the 700. The only problem I've heard of accuracy problems, came from an unreliable source. His arguement was that on a sandbag, his 710 would knock over all the 300 yard sillohettes left of his rifle, but wouldn't even touch them to the right of his gun![8D] You will never hear me complain of the accuracy of these, just the manufacter.

I'm a big Remington fan but i would stay away from the 710 period! Spend a little extra and get the Model700 ADL or a Savage, you'll be glad you did in the long run imo.

I picked up a Remington 700 ADL in 7mag a couple of seasons ago at Bass Pro Shops for less than $300. I've beat the crap out of it and it still kills everything I put the crosshairs on. I'd spend the little bit extra and at least opt for the ADL.
