Favorite WSM?
If you own one, what is your favorite WSM caliber? If you dont own one, but were going to get one, what caliber would you get? And what do you/would you use it for?

RE: Favorite WSM?
Probably the 270WSM. There really isn't any .277" out there except 270win.

RE: Favorite WSM?
Well I already had a .270 Winchester, I have never been a huge fan of the 7mm so I got a 300WSM. Had Winchester come out with a 338WSM I would have gone with that but it wasn't and still isn't available.:(
Mine was intended primarily for elk but it will be used alternately wth other rifles for everything I hunt. |
RE: Favorite WSM?
My wife just bought me a 270 wsm for my birthday. I'll let you know how it handles antelope and deer. I'm curious to see how it lends itself to prairie dogging. My brother's 270 is deadly in that arena with 90-gr hp's if kept under 3000 fps, but I think I need to stick to 110's. I'll keep you posted.

RE: Favorite WSM?
I would buy the 270-WSM. I would use it for Mule deer, Whitetails & Antelope.:)

RE: Favorite WSM?
i have a 300 wsm. so i would have to say without a doubt the 300 short mag. but i am willing to fall in love with other short mags for the right price.:D

RE: Favorite WSM?
I have both in browning stalker and love them both, both shoot better than I can.Took one deer with the 270 last year to try it out, will probably do the same this year with the 300,but usually use a 260 or 7/08 for deer.
Just got the 300 2 weeks ago so haven't shot it past 100 yds yet.but it gave some tight groups @100 so far. Tried some 110 gr v-max in the 270 and they were awesome using r-19 ![]() |
RE: Favorite WSM?
I have 270 and the300 and like both of them in the wsm calibers

RE: Favorite WSM?
I was looking for a all weather gun that was semi light and short and hit hard I end up wound up buying the Browning SS in 300WSM .. The 300 will do all the others will do and more .. I put a 4x12 Nikon on it .. I will try it this season ..

RE: Favorite WSM?
Having had experience with both 300 wsm and 7 wsm . I like the reduced recoil of the 7 WSM and the fact you can shoot heavier bullets then the 270 wsms. The 270 WSM is too close to the 270 Win in comparable barrel lengths

RE: Favorite WSM?
I dearly love both my 300 WSM,one is a featherweight and the other is a Super Black shadow.I go along with Big Bulls if Winchester comes out with a 338 WSM,it would be next on my list, then the 270 WSM.I would like a Tikkia T-3 lite in 270 WSM.

RE: Favorite WSM?

RE: Favorite WSM?
I recently acquired a .270 WSM (Winchester Model 70) and, so far, really like it. I didn't have a .270 at all so it filled that niche nicely.

RE: Favorite WSM?
I have a Browning a-bolt .270 wsm and it seems to shoot well and handle good . As far as being better than a .270 win its like spliting hairs. I had a .270 win for 18 yrs and I cant say the recoil is much different.

RE: Favorite WSM?
I like the 270 WSM best. Close behind would be the 300 then the 7MM. I think in the end I will prefer the 25WSSM above all.

RE: Favorite WSM?
if you ask me, the wsm's and wssm's are simply a way of getting people to buy new guns, with one exception: the .270 wsm. If you look at the ballistics, the .7mm, .300, .243, or .223 all mimic somthing. A .300 win mag, a .7mm Rem mag. The .243 win, or the .220 swift. These guns really don't give you higher velocity. They kick the same, or so slightly, you will NEVER know the difference if you compared identical guns. They are not more accurate. Even though some say the wider powder column burns more consistantly. But unless you are compressing your load, think of the dead air space on top of your powder when a case is horizontal. But that beautiful .270. think about it this way, it really isn't much better than your standard .270, but it does compete with the weatherby. It's performance looks great on paper, but the cost of guns and factory ammo are simply out of reach for most guys. But the.270 wsm is available to everyone. Props to winchester for that!
