RE: Ruger 204
I have one on order and can't wait to give it a whirl. Alot of folks are saying they don't see a need for another varmint cartridge but I say lets have some more:)

RE: Ruger 204
I like the concept but wonder about this little .20 caliber bullet bucking the wind...but I said the same thing about the .17 HMR and it seems to be doing very well:eek:

RE: Ruger 204
I just wonder if the 204 Ruger caliber has anything to do with the year 2004 and to celebrate there 40th anniversary and they had to do something special?

ORIGINAL: trailer I just wonder if the 204 Ruger caliber has anything to do with the year 2004 and to celebrate there 40th anniversary and they had to do something special? I'm sure the 204 is going to be a good cartridge, however I don't think we need a new caliber to fill in all the tiny gaps there are. There are allot of small calibers that have been proven. The 204 Ruger will be up against allot of competition. Ruger Redhawk |
RE: Ruger 204
R-R , no you didn’t misunderstand me about the year... I just find it funny that Ruger would come up with 204 cartridge and just so happens to be the year of 2004. Like you said” it will be up against of allot of competition and to have another caliber to fill in the gap” Hum, just to come out with a 204 cartridge , I wonder why ??
I was also talking about the 40th anniversary and just realized as you mentioned it was on the 10-22. This really has nothing to do with the 204. I just got my information mixed up:D |

RE: Ruger 204
My understanding of this cartridge is to compete against the the folks out there using the 220swift, 22-250, and the new line of WSSM cartridges on the market. Ruger is claiming as much or more speed w/o the throat erosion and case head pressures associated with the afore mentioned cartridges. Faster that the traditional .223 varmit loadings and better B.C. with more wind bucking ability than the fast .17's.
At least that's how I understand it. The 204 RUGER shares the same case head and overall length dimensions as the 222 Remington Magnum, but uses a slender new 20 caliber, 32 grain, V-MAX bullet. The 204 RUGER’s bullet has an extremely efficient ballistic coefficient of 0.192 and an amazing muzzle velocity of 4,225 feet per second. When compared directly with either the 22-250 Remington or the 220 Swift, the 204 RUGER offers higher muzzle velocity and flatter trajectory. Because the 204 RUGER cartridge achieves a higher velocity with less propellant than either the 22-250 Remington or the 220 Swift, this new cartridge does not compromise barrel life. The 204 RUGER also offers lower recoil and muzzle report than comparable high-velocity, sub-caliber ammunition. Its conventional case shape avoids feeding problems and increased rearward bolt thrust associated with short and super short magnum cartridges. |
RE: Ruger 204
I would like to see the ballistics for this gun, im hoping that it might just have the power to beat my friends 22-250, always looking for a little friendly competition!

RE: Ruger 204
I am just wondering if it is going to be a "fur friendly" round. I currently shoot everything that I want the fur from with my .17 REM but I hate loading those little freakin bullets ( can we say blood blisters?) and factory ammo is lacking to say the least. I think I am going to hold off on the .204 for a while to see what becomes of it and what repaorts come in from the field.
