Ruger O/U shotguns?
#1
I've been checking out diff makes & mods of O/U shotguns, 20ga in particular. I see lots of ads for Ruger's O/U Red Label line, but hardly see 'em used ones for sale.
Are they scarce because A. nobody shoots 'em, or B. nobody wants to get rid of 'em?
Any experience? How do they compare to Citori or Superposed?
Last week I found a place with NIB Ruger's for sale, and the price is kinda making them interesting enough to maybe check out.

JoeA, the Ruger is not in the superposed class but neither is the price ..I have seen Rugers for less then 1000 at most gun shows I go to and they are a very good gun probably stronger lockup then a Citori andd Rugers CS is way better then the black hole at Browning. I have had one bad experience with a Citori and don't see what the big deal is about them. A good friend just picked up a Beretta Silver Pigeon S 20 gauge w/28" barrels ..that is probably the sweetest 20 gauge I have picked up in a while and the price is in the 1600 dollar range.

The money you will spend on a Ruger you would be better off with a Browning or an SKB. Both guns have a better fit. You are paying for the name when you buy the Ruger its just not build as good. There is a large group of Ruger followers but by a better gun. My money is on the SKB check one out!

Really now can you backup these claims? I had both a browning and SKB and think nothing of them and try getting an SKB serviced anywhere never mind the browning blackhole CS. The Ruger has one of the strongest break open actions and their barrels are silver soldered not soft soldered like a lot of o/u shotguns...

I've been shooting a Red Label for the past ten years and love it. It fits me better than the Browning and as others have said the break open action is much stronger on the Ruger. Go to a gun store and pick up a few used Citori's and break them open, be sure to hang on to both halves though. I own three Red Labels and am very happy with them. Unless you want to spend the money for a Beretta the Red Label is your best choice.

I guess its just what you like in a gun. To me the Ruger didn't feel as good. I have talked to many people that have owned the Ruger and sold it for what they and I think is a better gun. Its just the same with any other gun, its what you think is the best. I think you can't beat a Remington 870 because it was the first shot gun I even shot and I still love that old gun.

The Ruger Red Label is a fine O/U. The Browning Citori is a fine shotgun but look at the prices of them. For the money I don't think you can beat the Ruger.I do have a SXS SKB in 12ga.It shoots well and has never given any problems.
JoeA if you're looking for a new or used Red Label look at www.gunsamerica.com I see them listed daily. The older Red Labels had the fixed chokes. The newer ones have the screw in chokes.I have a very early production 20ga R.L. Unfired NIB.It's a beautiful shotgun.Mine has the fixed chokes, Skeet/Skeet.
I have to disagree with most of what Marty1028 had to say.But he's entitled to his opinions. If paying for names?Believe me you're paying dearly for the Browning name.
