Eject problems w/ Win Mod 70 Coyote

I recently came into the ownership of a Winchester Model 70 Coyote in .22-250 cal. Have had some problems with ejecting spent cases. When the bolt is pulled back, the push-feed mechanism grasps the end of the case and twists the case against the inside of the receiver, making it necessary to jerk, rather heavily, on the bolt in order to eject the spent case. Anyone have similar peoblems? Is this normal.... I don't think so, as I have several Model 70's that work smooth as silk. Anyone know of a remedy for this problem? - ThreeThumbs

I'm not familiar with Winchester bolt faces, but from what I've seen on other rifles, there is a plunger ejector in the face. You might try cleaning it thorougly as any gunk down in there can cause it to work marginally. (also makes the firing pin work better too!).

Other than that, it could be a faulty ejector spring, or the extractor may be too tight on the rim of the case. I've seen that happen where the rotating of the bolt will cause the ejector to dig into the soft brass material and then hang on for dear life. It may just need to be cleaned, or relieved a little.

Those things are my best guess.

That does sound like a problem. I have had several push feeds, and never had the need to jerk so hard. What happens if you pull the bolt back slow? Brass stays in there. Danny might hit it on the head with the plunger. What I would do is pull bolt back slow and let the brass stay binded, and see where the other side (other side of the blade ejector) is getting caught or see if the plunger is jammed in the bolt.

A push feed bolt is suppose to push the spent case against the inside of the right side of the receiver until the case clears the receiver and is able to be pushed out the side. Your most likely solution is to clean the plunger hole and the extractor recess int he bolt lug thouroughly. DO NOT OIL IT when you put it back together as that will just collect more gunk. Another cure, although not likely, could be the plunger spring is broken.

It sounds like the ejector plunger is not pushing hard enough against the case.
