Most accurate .223 rifle
 

What is the most accurate 223 and the lowest cost. I am planning on purchasing a 223 and do not know a lot about them. I have a 22-250 in a Husquavarna and have used it about 30 years.

The most accurate .223 will be very expensive and most likely the cheapest .223 won't be anywhere near the most accurate. But the NEF handi rifle would make a decent inexpensive .223. You might also take a look at a Savage 110.

Look at the Savage Model 12-FV with the accu-trigger. This is a 26" bull barrel model with a hunting rifle style stock.
Mine is very accurate.;)

If you are looking for inexpensive, it is hard to beat the NEF .223 heavy bbl. As far as accuracy I have a Bushmaster V-match. The farthest I have shot is 160 yards and I am under 3/4 of an inch.

I have a savage 12bvss and have just shot (7) 5 shot groups at 100 yds
Using a sierra Blitzking 50 gr, 25.1 gr N133 powder=3400 fps below are the results.

.625", .437", .593", .562", .781", .500", .500". ==.571 avg

accu trigger is great on the Savage rifle . This is right out of the box Its a great gun.

and I believe because of the twist rate of 1-9 I should do better with a 55 gr bullet thats my next concentration.

Any of the Savage 223's should fit this bill. Also look at a Remington Model 7 in 223

Have a savage 10fp tht wasn't too expensive and have shot less than i in groups with it at 200 yds.
Last week a fellow at the range was shooting one of the NEF 223 with bull barrel and was getting less than 2 in groups @300.So if I wanted another 223 it would be the less expensive NEF. He let me shoot a 3-shot group with his reloads and they were almost in the same hole @100.

Your best beat is to buy a savage. I would rather save the money on the guy and put a great scope on it. Don't buy a remington and put 50 bucks in a scope buy a savage and put 200 bucks in a scope same money better set up

Very few 223 rifles will out shoot the NEF single shots. In that caliber they will almost all shoot 1/2 inch groups or better at 100 yards. The Savage with Accutrigger has been the one to beat in all of the recent tests I have read on Varmit rifles. I have had a couple heavy barreled Savage 223 rifles and the NEF as well. A synthetic stocked NEF 223 will cost you less than 200.00 at Wally-World. The Savage heavy barreled 223 with accutrigger goes for around 500.00. And worth every dime. I would go with a heavy barrel unless you are going to be carring it around on foot a lot. The heavy barrel Savage will go about nine pounds. The synthetic NEF is a little under 7 lbs.

This is my Remington 700 VLS in .223. It has a 26" heavy barrel, juled bold, hinged floorplate, laminated stock and can touch holes at 100 yards. The gun cost $600 the scope is a tasco Mag IV in 4-16x40. When I can afford it I will put a Bushnell Elite 4200 in 4-16x50 on it.

These are some of the groups my 700 VLS can shoot, these are not my best groups but they are very good groups. I reload Barnes 40 gr VLCs with 30gr of H335 which gives my gun velocities about 4000 fps. It will shoot just under .5 inch with factory Winchester 45gr hollow points at 3600 fps in the 40 round value pack for $11.00.

Shot my savage 10fp today.I haven't got around to having it bedded yet but will sometime and put a decent scope on it too,I think if I had a better scope on it it would do a little better,It has a simons on it now.

An accurate inexpensive .223 is the NEF Handi rile with a heavy bbl. The metal work isn't the best nor is the wood to metal fit. But I'll tell you what - the darn things shoot like a house on fire. I have a Tasco 4-16X Target scope on it and I don't think it will shoot any worse than a rifle 5 times its price. I'll take function over looks anytime.

You may also wish to consider the Weatherby Vanguard in .223 or the Howa 1500..Basically the same rifle as they are made in the same factory. I load my vanguard with the 64 grain winchester pp bullets and I regularly use it to shoot midi clay birds at 300 yards. It is topped with a cheap 8x32x50 AO scope but it has a clear sight picture and it does the job. The trigger on the vanguard is fully adjustable..mine is set at 2lb 6 ounces.
I paid $390.00 for the weatherby out the door.

Add another vote for the NEF hadi-rifle. Also the Ruger VT is simply awesome.
