I have an idea, Buy a safe, burn it and let us know if it survives or not.

The safe is replaceable it's the contents that count.Even at that Fireproof models are only good for so long in a fire. They have different fire ratings.Hopefully none of us will ever have to see how out safes hold up in a fire.Cannon's warranty covers fires and forcible entries.They even pay the freight back to the factory. Liberty warrants their safes against fire and forcible entry but you pay the shipping to the factory.So if you have one of these makes (probably others too?) you're covered for the safe. Contents are a different story.

my hunting buddy lost his safe in a fire about 2 years ago.he bought a browning safe that said fireproof.it turned out not to be..no need to spend great deal of money on one.there are some that are very affordable.i got a john deere made by liberty.it is a 23 gun safe and weighs 550 lbs.they have the reputation of being very reliable

I agree with Redhawk's post. I will add that you should beware of anyone that tells you that a gun safe is fireproof. There's no such thing. Gun safes are fire rated to offer protection to a specified tempeture for a specified period of time. The trouble with the rating is that there is no standard on how fast the test chamber is heated or where and how many sensors are placed on the safe during testing. If you have a minor fire you can expect a reasonable degree of fire protection, but if your house goes up (God Forbid) expect all to be lost. The difference is Cannon will repair or replace the safe at no charge to at all.

My understanding the Fireproofing in safes is nothing more then Gypsum board or sheet rock.When I was a sprinkler fitter a fire wall was nothing more then a few layers of sheet rock.I haven't done it yet but my plans are sometime in the near future build a double or triple wall of sheet rock around my safe.Using the metal studs attaching the sheet rock to it.I don't think it will be to hard a job and the added protection will be well worth the trouble of building it.When these safe manufacturers say fireproof it's very misleading. They are fire resistant but by no means fireproof.Anything will burn if it gets hot enough.
