What is a good cheap rifle in .300 wby

I have my eye on the weatherby vangaured. Any other suggestions in the 500 dollar range.

Burnie,

I notice you had no reply's so I thought I'd be respectful. In the $500 range I'd stay with the vanguard. The 300wby is a stout gun in power and recoil. It can produce as much recoil as a 375 h/h so I would buy a quality gun that would hold up to the recoil. I don't think cheap is a good word for buying a gun. Maybe priced right. When I look at rifles I tend to stay away from the really cheap ones.

i have a wby vanguard in the .300 mag and i really like it.however,when i got it i could not stand the noise or recoil.the worst thing was that it had a 9.5# trigger pull.there is an adjustment but it did not change the pull.it was so bad, i could not get a good group.i took it to a gunsmith and he worked the sear to 3.5# and what a difference! i can now get great groups at 300 yards using the wby 150 gr. sp. the price was $388.i bought a wby vanguard 30-06 in 1970 and have used it all these years without any complaints.i don't think wby makes a bad gun at any price!

I would buy it and not look back. They really are an excelent gun and IMO a lot better made than many guns costing hundreds more. Excelent quality at a very reasonable price.

Just a thought, but you also may want to look at the same guns under the Howa name. I don't think they chamber it in the weatherby cartridge except for the vanguard but they do chamber it in the Win mag and the WSM. [link]http://legacysports.com[/link]

A laminated stock stainless is going for just over $500 here at Galyans in Denver.

size=5]hello,

i just bought a vanguard about 3 months ago. i put a leupold 6.5x20 by 50mm scope. although i only shot it twice b.c of the snow and i didn't want to stomp throughout the snow. my trigger pull is adjustable is yours? i wasn't sure what you meant. i didn't mess with the adjustment yet i think i like it where it is.. hey loner.. i wasa reading an article about older wby vanguards they had a recall on some of them might want to check it to be on the safe side! i will agree with the recoil it hit me pretty hard with factory loads. i hate to see what a hot load would feel like!! the noise i dont might it lets people know theres a cannon around! ok well im going to go look at some other topics. are you guys into long range shooting?

For the cost,you can't go wrong with a Vanguard. I found the triggers are a little tight also but not hard to lighten up...;)
