Default most accurate factory .22

I had a Remington 541T until a hunting buddy hounded me into a trade. After I had the trigger set at a crisp 2.5 lb., that rifle would shoot under an inch at 50yds. off a bench with standard velocity ammo. I sure do miss it! It there anything out there in this ballpark ($300-400) without stepping up to a $700 Kimber? The trigger doesn't have to be great out of the box, but must be adjustable. I know Remington is introducing a new bolt Model 504 sometime the year, but I don't know what the price will be. I've heard people brag on the CZ's, but I don't care for tip-off scope mounts.

The CZ 452 will on average outshoot the 541s, or at least in my experience. You could always have the CZ drilled and tapped.

You can always get one of the Remington 40X's that the CMP is selling if you qualify. They fall within your price range and are exceptionally accurate.

The Thompson Center Classic 22 that I own will shoot just over .5 at 50 yds with match ammo. It has a steel receiver and the barrel is screwed to the receiver and has a match chamber. It has been reliable for a auto loader, the only malfunctions have been ammo related (cheap ammo). As long as you use quality ammo you won’t a problem.

cz452 is a heck of deal but you dont like the mounts so thats an easy fix if you have them drilled&tapped like mentioned earlier and you would still be cheaper than a kimber.
shot a friends TC classic and I was pretty impresssed with it.

I have a CZ that I picked up this spring...took it to the range first time 2 weeks ago and the groups at 50 yards are very impressive. Shooting that cheap 550 rds per carton stuff from Federal...a squirrel would be in deep dodo with that gun.

TC classic was second on my list and now Remington comes out with this 504 and that is a very nice gun from all indications.

I honestly wouldn't be that thrilled by a .22 that shot just an inch at 50 yards. My Ruger 10-22 will do that with cheap factory ammo crap. I got one for ya

Winchester model 69 single shot bolt, old as my father I think (he's 65) 27 inch barrel.
I have two of them, they'll both shoot quarter inch at 50.

Right off hand I would say the Kimber is extremely accurate, but pricey as you already know. The kimber is an a grown man's 22, not a kid's 22. Meaning that for $600+, it is for serious shooting. I have an old Savage M19 NRA Match that I bought about 10 years ago at a flea market, that 1/2" groups all day long with match ammo, but go to heck with CCI maxi mags and Rem. yellow jackets. Anyway that's another story.

I would look at at the heavy barreled Ruger 10/22. A buddy of mine has one that he put a 2.5-10x44 Simmons Aetec on, and that thing is scary accurate, even out to 100yds. My 10/22 sporter is not quite that accurate but with a 4x I can get about 3/4" groups at 50yds, a little better on good days and a little worse on bad days. I am thinking very hard about getting a Houge combination heavy barrel and stock for my 10/22.

Anshuzt no if's ands or buts. It's the undesputable king of 22's when it comes to accuracy out of a factory gun. Plan to spend in the $600 dollar range for a model for hunting. But then again you're getting a gun capable of one hole groups at 50 yards anytime all day.
They dominate in serious 22 rifle competition for a reason, but the question is do you really need to spend $600 for a squirell rifle?
