I wouldn't touch it, to many owners have to much trouble with the SBE.For a good gun in that price range,I'd go with Winchester x2

uglydog, that sucks about your gun walking away like that. The troubles I've been hearing about the SBE are mainly jamming issues, barrels breaking and the infamous Bennelli click[dimple in the primer but no boom]. Keep in mind, this is the SBE, not the M1,which I hear is very solid. I ran a thread on a couple of waterfowling sites as to which is the worst shotgun made and the Charles Daly was far and away the most complained about.Second place was a tie between the SBE and the Remington 11-87. I don't remember any bad comments about the X2 or Baikal MP153.Although there is alot of Mossberg bashing, I haven't heard one complaint yet about the 935 from hunters that own them.
Another problem I've been hearing about, is that the guns in the Berretta family[ Benelli, Stoeger and Franchi] are shooting to the left and customer service is the craps[ waiting over 2 months for a replacement barrel]. Personally, I'd go with Mossberg 935 or Winchester X 2

i've had mine for about 18 mos and i like it very much, theonly problem i have encountered is that it doesnt like to cycle light loads very well, this for me is minor i dont care for light loads anyway. the gun is well made and comes up very smooth.

I'v owned my SBE for at least 6 years and have not had anything go wrong with it. I shoot trap and hunt a ton of crows in the summer and then hunt ducks, geese and lots of pheasants in the fall. I have never had a problem, not even a miss fire. I'd buy another in a heart beat.

I've had an SBE for over a year now and never had a problem with it. Shot light loads on the Sporting Clays range, and used it for bird and rabbit hunting too. I bought it mainly for a turkey gun and bought a Franchi o/u 20 gauge for all other hunting and shooting. But the darn SBE fits me so well, I'm far more accurate with it on the clays range than with the o/u. For me, there is no other semi-auto 12 gauge.
